Not so fast. There are enough people that hate teaching or suck at it who are desperate enough to go for such a job. That's why these jobs keep cropping up. After all if nobody applied for it, they would be forced to raise their wages for it. There is an unlimited supply of suckers as P.T. Barnum (sp?) was wont to note.

Don't forget about the "missionary teachers."
Missionary teacher says,
"Money, housing, and benefits are not important. Teaching is the only important thing. Besides, most Koreans are not as wealthy as Canadians."
They will work for any kind of salary and benefits. The boss refers to them as the model to follow.

Maybe I'm nuts but I see potential in that offer.

If I were inclined to live in Seoul (which I'm not) I could see it as a part-time job opportunity that could provide a potentially huge upside in terms of making connections with influential people. City Hall certainly has a different cachet than Mrs Kim's hogwan.

I'd guess they'd approve a secondary job & an overall nice income would be well in reach. Or if you fit in well at the jobplace other lucrative in-house opportunities might very well present themselves. The involvement with international organizations might be fun & interesting.

I'd surely ask a lot of questions before signing anything but it could be a uniquely promising postion.

By the way: where did you go to elementary school, junior high, high school and university? None of your business, if you can't find it on here.

Who is the premier of Ontario? Dalton McGuinty

Who won the Stanley Cup in 1993? I'll give you a hint. In 1993 some members of this team took it for a swim in Patrick Roy's pool that year. Wink

What is a "Tim-Bit?" I will only answer that if you tell me how much time you spend at Tim Horton's.

What is the largest subway network in Canada? I'll give you a hint, and you can answer it yourself: Union Station and Eglinton

Which province is the only perfect rectangle? Saskatchewan

Who was Mr. Dressup's androgynous puppet friend? Oh, I liked Ernie Coombs. Casey was darned sexy.

The androgynous puppet's pet dog? Finnegan, but his fur was gettin' a little raggy toward the end. I heard he was molested by Mr. Rodgers.

How much was tuition when you went to school? OH, puhhlleeeezeeee. About as much money as a Korean woman would pay you for sex.

How did you pay for your schooling? Again, oh puhhleeezeeee. Mommy popped me out, and BLAM! Edumacation!!!

What is the highest tax bracket in Canada? Isn't it still around 29%? Never ask these kinds of deep money questions to a brother slaving away in Kooohhrrreehhhaaaaaaa.

If you were arrested by the Surete, where would you be? Ever been arrested by da Surete du Quebec?

How many political parties have seats in the House of Commons? Something like 5 (affiliated with parties) plus a few independents. I hate politiks.

OK,

I'm gettin' bored, and I'm drunk off of my azzz. Just sittin' back chillin' with a little poutine.

All of this from a man who posts on here regularly that he works for a university. Rolling Eyes I don't know much of anything about you, past what you post here.

Schwa might be right; it says no more than 20 hours a week so for all we know it could be an average of 10-15.

Has anyone here worked as an editor/proofreader back home? If so, what do you think they're paid?! Unless you're THE editor.... For a part-time editing job back in Canada, that's not great but it's not bad either. If it weren't for the lack of housing, I'd be tempted. [/b]

Sounds like a crap job. Crap pay. Those are one of the ones that I scroll through and see the pay and hit the back button before my page finishes scrolling.

People are complaining about the pay, but I'm sure some F2 folks who can pick up extra work easily now will apply. Considering what I do and what I make for it, the only problem that I see with the job is that it's asking for a ridiculous amount of experience. It would pad a resume nicely.

True wisdom comes in knowing if we strip away the facade of our not-Americanness we're all Derrek.

I just want this jury-is-still-out-Derrek to go on the record regarding his feelings about Canadians having a 6 month tourist visa. As a "Canadian" BBE do you...

1) ...feel an overweening sense of pride that Canadians are so beloved we're accorded this special privilege?

2) ...believe this permissive Korean policy creates too many illegal teachers, cheapens the ESL teaching profession, and makes it harder for very tall American ESL teachers to score k-girls?

1. No. Simple agreement between two countries. You scub my back, I'll scrub yours kind of thing.
2. No, but I do feel it is something that is being abused a little bit. Just as there are a lot of Koreans abusing similar visas to Canada. Can't mention one without the other.

And I'm not interested in girls.

Gee, Derrek/Mindmetoo, you just couldn't resist the, '...believe this permissive Korean policy creates too many illegal teachers, cheapens the ESL teaching profession...' swipe against Canadians, could you?

You can't get away with direct swipes against Canadians, so you have to make indirect ones.
