| Will you see "Jarhead"? |
| Yes, as a former professional military imperialist pawn I like to be given reflections on past glories I can relate to. |

| No, war movies are sad depressing and negative glorifications of hideous violence vilely and insanely perpetrated upon one thinking human by another. |

Well maybe if I go to Bali again I'll buy it for a dollar on DVD. Though now a days one can get fragged like one is in a war in Bali. Sounds a bit of a let down that he saw no combat... Yet, I did not know the book existed or I may well have read it too. I want to finish writing my own book but I can not publish it as it has got so many covert things in it it would get slashed to pieces by the government editor... Errr no seriously, I guess it already came out then and I missed it. I suppose I should start reading a movie/entertainment site so I don't miss movies. Anyhow, from the trailer it looked pretty good- Jamie Fox acted just like so many of the lifers who were not only Marines but rather existed primarily and inextricably as Marines. Where as, I was more a contemplative individual who merely wished to pursue the greatness of the profession of arms for my own glory and renown as Don Quixote who went before me.
And I loved to yell,
"VALHALLA!"
when I came like Beowulf from the sea in the depths of night. I did not see the "Lord of War" - the title sounds a bit prideful though. I'm going with a little waif university kid errr I mean adult lady to the movies in the afternoon so I'll have to check if I can see some pop drop body bag action... |

I'm going to do you all a big favour, so listen up.
If you're going to a movie theatre in the near future, the movie you want to see is not Jarhead.
It's not Lord of War.
It's not Chicken Little nor Zarathura either.
It's DERAILED.
Yeah, that's right- the one with the former Mrs. Pitt, Jennifer Aniston.
I suppose- technically- any movie she appears in would have to be classified as a 'chick flick'.
So, to summarize- go and see that Jennifer Aniston chick flick (trust me on this). |

| I've been planning to go see it just so I can pretend that Clive Owen is James Bond. |

OPERATION HOLLYWOOD exposes the little-known world of collaboration between Hollywood and the Pentagon.

It's a world where studios and networks bow to pressure from the military.
It's a world where generals and admirals twist the arms of movie producers to get them to portray the military in a more positive light.
It's a world where history is changed, movies are killed and artistic integrity is thrown out the window.
It's a world of movie censorship and self-censorship.
David Robb's shocking new book is based on thousands of pages of Pentagon documents, including internal memos and bluntly frank correspondence with producers the military seeks to influence. David Robb has interviewed more than 70 Hollywood filmmakers and Pentagon censors.
Operation Hollywood shows, in stunning detail, that while we may think the content of American movies is free from government interference, the Pentagon has actually been telling filmmakers what to say and what not to say for decades.

Hollywood and the Pentagon
Documentary about the American army's involvement with Hollywood and filmmaking. The head of the Film Liaison Office makes no secret of his goals: flattering the US Army, winning support for its actions on the battlefield, and encouraging more soldiers to sign up. In short: pure propaganda.
Scripts are cut and watered down; characters are changed; the historical truth is fudged.

I was on an M551-A1 Armored Reconnaissance Airborne Assault Vehicle (Sheridan.)
Very old clunker, but small and light enough to airdrop.

Lowboys were a trip. Several times we convoyed, one or two tanks would end up
on its side next to the trailer. Noone seriously hurt, thank the Lard. But it's very
unnerving for those few seconds when you see only sky and feel the tracks slipping.
By the start of the ground war, I had scored a cushy position driving the battalion commander
in our brand new, out of the crate M113. |
