I believe its ANGUK Station.. when you get out of the station.. you'll have one really busy street and another street (thats not so busy) that intersect. Start going in the direction of the non-busy street that you can visibly sees goes in an upward hill direction.

You have to walk up that hill for maybe 1-1.5 km or so.. it'll begin to curve around towards the left and you'll see the embassy more or less up there.

Not the best directions (its been a few years since I've been there).. but thats what I recall.

ZED is going there today.. maybe he can verify or iron-out the specific details on the exact directions later.

The taxi driver could probably direct you better.

Wow you guys are really slinging some crap here...

My report as of Monday Dec 5th, 2005.
The embassy is near the back gate of Cheongdeuk Palace, not far from Sungkyungwan University. I got a 15 day visa for 42,000 won in about 1 hour there last Monday. (I believe longer visas are more expensive and take longer to acquire but cannot speak to that.) No appointments, no hassles. I got a taxi from the downtown area near the front of Kyungbok Palace and it was only a couple of thousand won to get there. At the top of the hill beside the embassy is a Post Office with a bank machine if you need more money.

Well, I was about to describe all that but the above poster has done it pretty well. The only things to add are: bring one photo and also that you will have to pay 1,000 won for the application form, on top of the 42,000 for the visa. I just went in yesterday and got my visa; I'll be flying to Hanoi next week.

My visa was for a month and cost 87,000 to do for the following day. That would have been closer to 67,000 if I'd given them the full week.

This information is as of January 22nd, 2007.

Vietnam Embassy location: Anguk Station, exit 2. Upon exiting, you will see a bus stop just ahead of you. Take the Jongro 02 maul bus (종로02 마을 버스) about 6 stops. Bus stop name is Gamsawon (감사원). Make sure you don't take Jongro 01 bus!! (Jongro 02 bus also picks up somewhere across the street from the YMCA in Jongro.)

Once off the bus, follow the road that is going downhill, and stay to your left. Follow a white wall for a few moments and you will come to the entrance of the Embassy. Enter the small building on your left marked Consular Services.

The foreigner desk is located in an office just inside the entrance to the building. They require your passport and a passport-sized photo.

Cost me 67,000won today, and will be ready in 4 days.

Contact Information:

Vietnam Embassy (Seoul)
28-58 Samchong-Dong,
Jongro-Gu, Seoul
110-230

738-2318 or 739-2065. They speak English.

Happy travels!

I dont know if this is still relevant, but I got my Vietnam visa in Bangkok using the overnight service, the cost was approximately $36 USD.

I used a travel agent and got the 30 day visa done in 7 business days for 60,000.
(Of course she screwed up the dates, but the point is the costs.)

Great directions, thanks.

I'd like to make one addition. Once you get off the bus you have to go uphill for about 10 metres, then it starts to go downhill. The embassy is on the other side of the road.

Id suggest getting it at the airport. Some sites have a US$21 fee and some you need to pay with Western Union (along with a fee of about twenty bucks for having the pleasure of sending it with them!!!) Just keep clicking until you get one with a Visa/Mastercard sign.

I got a confirmation reply very shortly after - within a few hours - and within 2 days an email with 2 attachments - the official letters from the Vietnam Visa department. Printed them out, and when i got to the airport presented these at the special office before customs, along with 2 passport photos. Filled out a one page application with a little more passsport info and then coughed up $us25.

Total cost of $us46, and 2 passport photos. Timewise - it adds 10 minutes to the time spent in the airport. Thats a minor problem as taxis arent going anywhere. It really is TOO easy - id recommend it to anyone. Theres an entry on the 4th Feb at 09:52 with the same question and theres heaps of entries with different replies. I have an Aussie passport - works with all passports and is the same price accross the board.

i got mine online from phat (phatman visa). you scan your passport and wire some money and he scans a letter you print and take with you. at the airport and they issue the visa there.

i am confident this option will be cheaper, as he's known to have some of the best prices. sounds like a scam, but it isnt. you can check with the vietnamese embassy if you're unsure. you even have a guy to hang out with in saigon and a free "get phat or go home" shirt.
