One guy that stands out was this tall skinny pasty-white Quebecer with a big blonde afro. He was a big Beegees fan, hence the rhinestone beltbuckle and the white jeans (which he wore almost everyday). He had switched majors so many times, I think he was going on his 10th year at university. He was indeed our version of John Belushi in Animal House.
This guy was so fanatical about the Montreal Canadians that he locked himself in his dorm room for a week after they were illiminated from the playoffs. Students would come knocking at his door to taunt him with updates of the playoffs, to which he would come running out spiting fire and brimstone with tears in his eyes and a knife in hand.
The day the first Gulf War officially began, he came crawling up the stairs from the TV room drunk out of his mind and screaming ecstically "We are going to war!".
This guy was a staunch Quebec seperatist and yet was attending a university outside of Quebec.
I hadn't seen or heard from him for nearly 5 years until I saw him on TV by pure luck while channel surfing. He was being interviewed on national news because he had become a leading PQ organizer for the seperatist vote during the Quebec referendum on sovereignty in 1995. |
