Um, not they're not. The Korean police are about as useless as *beep* on a bull in those situations. You clearly have not beed here long or know nothing about Korean cops. The girls chances of being protected by the cops if they came back would be slim to none. |

| No, the parents will be allowed to stay because he is too sick to travel. The girls will be allowed to apply for landed immigrant status based on a human rights complaint against Korea. That is all Mansbridge said. |

That's ridiculous. I bet that was approved by someone at Immigration who doesn't know the difference between North and South Korea. If there is such a big problem of many human rights abuses in South Korea, why doesn't the Canadian Embassy offer better services? |

| I think they should all be deported (mother and daughters) only after the father dies of course. I was confused as to why they wouldn't let the daughters stay when he only has 3 months to live but the wife could stay. Guess the immigration line was that only the wife is important. Anyways, you can't get into Canada with a criminal record (special visa etc) so they must've lied about his time spent in jail. In the end, it doesn't surprise me that they were allowed to stay as one poster mentioned.. it's election time.. Who is the MP for that area? Is he/she a Liberal? |

So the kids should suffer because the father tried to improve the lives of his daughters?
I'm related to half of the town they live in, and it seems a lot of people have rallied around them. Hell, even I got involved with my token effort to make things right in the world. Not sure how they ended up in Fort Nelson in the first place though as it was pretty much Asian free when I was last there. The culture shock of moving from Seoul to a town of 4000 in the north would have been huge.

They probably wanted to go someplace quiet (not quiet anymore now that they're on the news) I have no problems with the father trying to make a better life for his kids. But, when you have 1000's or more people claiming the same thing that come from a lot worse countries than South Korea.. Rules are Rules. Mind you, not a lot of them move to Fort Nelson BC or any of the small towns. I think that the people who are supporting them are good. It's what most small town people across Canada would do. They probably were never in real danger of being deported anyways so many loopholes in our immigration laws.. |

This would be hilarious fodder for classroom discussion if it made the news here.....SK considered in such light.
If this report is true, and they are granted citizenship because of it...what kniggits. Maybe I won't get my Canadian Citizenship....
