If I could go back to my undergrad, I'd have done a social studies composite teaching degree rather than history teaching. I've basicly taught geography since leaving school so it would have helped me. Plus, with NCLB, I don't know if having a history degree will prevent me from teaching other SS classes if I ever go back to teaching in the US.
I'd also have followed the university's advice and gotten a minor, probably in Spanish teaching, but maybe (knowing what I know now) English teaching.
I'd like to get a masters in a couple of years & I'll probably go for social studies classrooom curriculum & instruction. |

I did go back to get a MA and it was kind of international relations-like. Actually its program was 'peace, development, security and international conflict transformation'.
The main idea was to open up doors to work in yet other countries.. plus having the MA to fall back on for university jobs in Asia teaching English as well. In addition, maybe there would be some kind of NGO job or think tank or something I could work for at home in political-fueled cities (DC, NY, SF, etc.) if I perhaps did an internship or something first. |

Philosophy.
If there's one d-a-m-n-e-d topic that gets shoved aside and overlooked these days, to everyone's eventual grief, this is it.
Graduate studies in English made me all too painfully aware of where my deficiency lay. You just can't begin to undertake any kind of rigorously critical analysis of anything--anything at all--without getting back to philosophy, which is itself a kind of dialogue running back to Socrates and the pre-Socs in the West. Miss out on this running gab-fest and you'll lack the necessary critical background for undertaking . . . well . . . much of anything.

I agree.
I did my BA in Philosophy and History in an English university specializing in Anglo-American 'Analytic' Philosophy. Christ, some of that stuff is hard, but Frege, Quine, Carnap...great, smart guys.
Philosophy should be a compulsory subject in high school. Philosophy is the science of abstraction.
If I could do it all over again I'd do...Philosophy! Other possibilities: IT, Geography, Astronomy (if that can be done at undergraduate level specifically) or languages (Korean would've been rather useful! Or Spanish and Portuguese). |

| I plan to do a Masters in EFL/ESL online in the near future. Or I might go with Linguistics. |

If I had the chance to go back to school and not be married, I would study to become a Pirate, a privateer, a corsair, or a swashbuckler. Then I would sail the seven seas looking for booty.

After four years of teaching English here, I'm going back to school to get certified to teach French and Spanish K-12. French and Spanish were my major and minor for my BA. After I get my cert, I'm planning to go straight on for a Masters, probably in education, but I'll cross that bridge when I get a little closer to it.
I've found myself enjoying teaching more than I'd ever expected, but I'm getting very tired of the dodgy ESL scene here. It'll be nice to have real benefits and vacation, plus a shot at tenure. |

Good question. My BS is in biology, specializing in aquatic. I was accepted to grad school
before coming here to Korea. I love field and lab work, but see no future in it.
Teaching Koreans is fun, but also no advancement opportunity.
I want to study Korean language (formally) so I can talk to wifey's parents.
Aside from specific courses, I'm not likely to seek another degree. We may start or buy
a pet shop, aquarium supply shop or custom aquarium design business.
Sometimes I want to be a raw tuna chef, but not sure if it will go over well in Texas. |

Actually I would not go back to university. I have my BA which confirms I'm a thinking human being. I would go to college and get a 2 year diploma in computer programing.
I knew a couple dot.com bail outs that went back to college and studied to be a chef. |

My cousin is a senior at Maine Maritime Academy, sort of an unofficial coast guard + merchant marine academy. He's going to work for some kind of shipping line and do exactly as you wrote. Exactly. You should see some of the booty he's brought home even as an undergraduate. |

I've struggled with this question lately. During my MBA years I got to know some professors and I liked what I saw of their careers -- most were making money with consulting work, pursuing research that they were interested in, and oh yes teaching some clever and thoughtful students. I think I want to get a doctorate and do the same thing myself. The question is what subject?
I want to:
-- work in several different countries throughout my career, including the developing as well as the developed world.
-- work with people.
-- have consulting opportunities on the side. (so, I'll study something practical, not highly theoretical like Mathematics)
-- make a lot of money and have fun.
I'm thinking of something to do with Energy (the business side or even engineering?), possibly Urban Development or Architecture, or something nerdly like M.I.S.. Computers are safe because I have experience in that field, but I find them boring and I hate being in a back office behind a keyboard instead of out dealing with people. What do you guys think? This is a serious problem for me this year. |

Problem solved.
