Hi,

Please go to the closest R.O.K. Consulate and get a Notarized Copy. If they refuse to do it up for you, then save some moola over however along a period of time it might take,

Hi Roch,

I think you're right. i've asked whether they will accept a copy. I'm not happy sending it.

However, if you are determined to get here a.s.a.p., then go with a different recruiting company. That 900k b.s. is, again, b.s. you do not need in your life, Mate.

Ok, point taken, but this is a contract from the school not the recruiter. It's their stipulation. I have asked the recruiter whether this can be negotiated. You never know...

Whatever you do, do not mail your stuff to anybody and do not let ESL2KOREA, Steven Grommesh ([email protected] and [email protected], amongst other current covers), or any other, imho, crook talk you into doing so. Just my dollar's worth.

Imput valued mate. I'm not posting here just to have my thoughts rubber-stamped! Ultimately though, if all else seems above board and attractive - which it doesn't yet but it may yet become so - would you let the fact that the interview was arranged by this recruiter stop you taking the job? Honest question. I'm hoping i won't have much to do with them if all goes well...

Not heard of Steven Grommesh. Have been dealing with a Irish guy called Barry and a Korean contact called John Lee. They've not made me suspicious yet bt if i should be PM me and spill some beans. Please!

Cool

In the end, you have to just come over and try. If it sucks, then just finish the contract if you can and find a better one next year when you are here. Remember that school will also not hire you if you seem like you will be way too difficult. You don't want to seem like you're paranoid.

pay attention to bellum99's advice that "schools can go from good to bad in a heartbeat", that's soooo true.

Similarly, they can go from bad to excellent !!! The director at the hagwan where I taught for my first year in Korea was called "Dragon Lady" and that was when she was in one of her better moods. I was not going to sign on for a second year but the hagwan was sold to a man and wife team who were really wonderful.

I stayed for another year and would still be there except I wanted to see more of Korea and went to another job in another province.

I would recommend AGAINST sending your original degree to Korea.
I was recently hired by a hogwon in Bundang, only for them to change their mind the day before I was due to fly out, and hire someone else.

I am now in the situation where I can't get another job in Korea until the director (Cristal of GnB in Migeum and Indeogwon - be warned) cancels my visa and returns my degree cert. Over one week since she "cancelled" my contract (her words), I have not heard from her despite repeated requests to return my degree and cancel the visa.

I am now sitting here with no job, next to no money, sleeping on my fathers sofa because of one woman who thinks it's ok to treat people without any respect. I'm not saying that all hogwon directors are likely to behave in this kind of way, but obviously some are. Be careful!
