Two of my three winter school classes have finished. I think it's safe to say we had more fun in my lessons than the other 5 maths, Korean, and English lessons they were getting from the KTs. One day someone from the school district showed up to take photos and they even made a banner.

Next week just one class at 8.30 in the morning. They're really getting sick of winter school. When I walk by their classroom during math or Korean they sure don't look very happy. Oh well, I'm still happy and try to rub a bit of it off. I'm also doing some extra tutoring with some of the keener students and that's a lot more fun.

2.5 weeks down, 1.5 to go, and I'm enjoying it a lot more than the summer camp. (Mostly just because of the weather, I think... Doing a camp in the August heat is brutal.)

I teach college students most of the year, so I'm not quite used to the young 'uns... BUT! they're actually quite a refreshing change. I was lucky enough to get a pretty pleasantly-natured class of 15 elementary-aged kids, and the classes and program have been pretty well-organized.

We've got a final presentation (my rendition of Chicken Little) coming up on the last day... The kids have their lines memorized and costumes are prepped... Now I just need to get the wooden-acting kids to start busting out some drama skills!

Although it has been fun, the money will be good, and I will miss the kids.... it will certainly be a relief when this all draws to a close. I'm not used to working a full week!

Now I've just gotta figure out what to do in February... 4 weeks off and no plane ticket bought for ANYWHERE! Could be a suitable month for some studying, I guess~

Its not too late to buy a ticket. I bought one this week for Sri Lanka for jan 30 & it was reasonable. Am looking forward to some tropical warmth.

Now I find out I'll be teaching until the 24th, not 20th, but I don't mind. In addition to my early morning class of grade 1 going on grade 2 students who really don't want to be coming to school during winter break, I've been given a conversation class with five of the brightest matriculants. What a joy they are to work with - five of the nicest teenagers you'll find in Korea. Then a few of the grade 2 going on grade 3 students wanted to do some extra work with me so I've arranged to meet with them around my other lessons. As a teacher there's little more you can ask for than students who really want to learn.

I'm having a great time in the winter classes to be honest...smaller classes, really fun (and funny) kids who want to learn and join in, finishing at 12.30 every day...I could get used to this! I woke up in a foul mood this morning but came home in a great mood - thanks to great kids, an excellent coteacher and fun, productive classes.

Generally, these students really like stuff that makes them speak. Often that's not the case in regular classes. They find the grammar stuff I've done sometimes dreadfully tedious and they just wanna have fun and talk. That's cool, although I do try to bombard them with useful vocab and phrases because these are extra classes.

Some folks I know have to stay in school til 3 or even half-4, which seems ridiculous to me. Me and co-teacher have no qualms about shooting off home as soon as we've finished class pretty much. I plan all the lessons and materials by myself so - unless it's essential to a future lesson that I make materials in school (rarely if ever) - I'm off home. There's more good news: this continues til March 2nd! Very Happy

Finished with another class this morning. Next week they're still coming to school for more Math, Korean, and English, but not with me. Today they said thank-you and seemed disappointed that I wasn't teaching them next week, but I think that's more a reflection on the lessons the KTs do and not me, lol. Nice, well behaved girls but they're really, really sick of coming to school during winter break. Oh well, they're still better off than another group of girls that has apparently been brought in today for no other reason than scrubbing the staff room floor.

Now I just have three more (I think) conversation lessons to go with a great group of five new students. It's not even work - it's supposed to be an hour but we usually go an hour and ten or fifteen minutes.

All in all it's been a breeze this winter.

Just finished graDE 5 off today with the grade 6 students coming next week. Only 13 registered so it should be fun. Doing a reading story where kids make mini-books and corresponding mini-cards for Bingo and such. Play board games like scrabble, Twister (a big hit), and Guess who? One week off and back to do a one week phonics class for grade 4 and 5. Early days, lots of leasure time and no one around to bother me.

I've just finished my third week of camps, and now my two-week vacation begins! This week was a new bunch of 7th grade girls who were extremely shy and refused to participate. I'm glad it's over.

After vacation I have just one more week-long camp and then I'm free until March 2nd. The camp experience overall has been very good, allowing me time to get to know my favorite students much better. It should make teaching next semester that much more rewarding.
