Things I've found out when dealing with public schools.

The educaiton offices are coming down like sledge hammers on contracts that they consider give too many benefits to foreigners (pay, vacation), while contracts that demand more than the standard they are happy to ignore.

However:
Koreans often like to do things under the table. You might be able to work some sort of scheme with your school for more vacation, however this has two problems.

1. You have to trust your principal is going to follow through with their end of the baragin.

2. If you get a deal shut the hell up about it. THe minute anyone outside of those that need to know figure out you have a deal they could easily make it go sour. A colleague complains to someone in the education office.... Other foreigners esp. will use your exception in order to try and extract more vacation time, so the neighboring schools will have no problem ratting you out and your deal will be gone.

How can one discriminate if they are GEPIK or not? What do the GEPIK teachers have to do that those hired directly by a school don't? I don't think I am part of GEPIK but the contract they gave me is just the same as those given to GEPIK teachers. As far as I know I am not part of GEPK. If you are GEPIK what does it say on your alien registration card? Mine gives the address of my school.

Because the Gyeonggi Do Education Office has told schools that even if their native speaker is not part of GEPIK they must be treated as if they are or else.

I'm in the same boat as you and some offical has come into our district demanding our vacations be cut despite the fact we teach more classes than the people on the GEPIK contracts (which the offical was apparently unconcerned about Rolling Eyes )
