There's actually a website put together by former teachers called "Prisoner of Wonderland." You should check it out: http://www.geocities.com/prisonerofwonderland/

Why are you doing that? Why are you scaring her away from the job? What if she ends up liking it you big putz? Let her decide for herself she's not a child. Just because others had a bad experience doesn't mean she can't take care of herself. Damn Christ they are paying her accomodations and airfare if she doesn't like it come up with a letter of release pay them back their airfare and go onto something else. She might enjoy it how do you know?

I hate when people flame and keep flaming and flaming. I hope you open a business one day and someone does that to you, idiot.

You ignorant fool.

OK, I was semi-nice to you in the other two threads. But this time you are being a complete and total idiot. YOU HAVEN'T EVEN BEEN TO KOREA!! YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO GET A JOB! WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?

He was asking for advice, which is smart. Unfortunately you don't ask for advice. You just wax on about how much you hate Korea, recruiters, employers. AND YOU HAVEN'T EVEN SEEN THE INSIDE OF INCHEON AIRPORT YET! HELL, YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO SPELL! Stay where you are. We don't need you in Korea.

I really hope you find a job in the worst hogwan in Korea. Then we'll see how you feel.

Why don't you apply for Wonderland, then? I'm sure that you and them deserve each other.

Sure I would love to spend my day off with you.

Sounds like you're ready for Wonderland, my friend.

If you ever wonder why you got fired before your contract was up, you should maybe think a little deeper rather than hearing the same old "it's the parents" no buddy it's you.

Why don't you save the hassle since I can find out anyway, and tell me where you work? See what happens in the next few weeks. I'm sure lurkers and posters here would love to bury you.

As I said I work at a prominent Wonderland. While I have issues with the split shift hours of work and the behaviour of the littlest children, this particular hagwon is pretty good and my employer is a really decent man.

That being said, I am also trying to help my employer find a foreign teacher or two so I may be a bit biased on my appraisal.

I think the very loud criticisms of the chain have had a definite impact on recruitment because I have been told even 2 months notice is insufficient to find foreign teachers.

The only ignroant fool here is you!

Wonderland has pretty much the worst reputation in Korea for a franchise chain, and deservedly so. I'll admit that there are a few good ones around but they're few and far between.

For some one who has never been to Korea you sure know a lot about Korea and it's culture........about Jack Sh*t!!

If she ends up in a bad job and/or has a bad boss, and then wants out, she has more hope of HELL FREEZING OVER than she does of getting a Letter of Release from her boss. And more than likely, they'll also withhold her pay for some bogus reason. As a result, she won't be able to get another job until her previous E-2 visa has expired (Korean Immigration Law).

All I know about Wonderland is what I heard long ago, all in a golden afternoon.

This slightly trippy EFLer girl named Alice once chased a white envelope down a subway entrance somewhere on the Blue Line and emerged in a Wonderland. She told me the people running the place were mad as hatters. Soon she lost the ability to reason with the vindictive queen in charge, who was a real card and kept threatening to give her the axe. And she couldn't communicate with the rest of the staff, who constantly made her ingest strange mushrooms and potions like kimchi-chigae, which caused the size, shape and appearance of everything including Alice herself to change.

Eventually, she lost all sense of time & space, along with her own self-identity and bowel control. (Embarassed Korean food can do that if you're not used to it.) And finally, poor Alice lost her footing and grip on all the dearly-held little convictions she arrived here with, like political correctness and her belief in the basic decency & honesty of people. Crying or Very sad

But as some posters here have said, there is more than one Wonderland. So, while one may be a world of whim and fantasy, another is a descent into horror and self-sustaining Kafkaeque insanity. As with anything in Korea, YMMV.

Alice Before, In and After Wonderland

Most suck the life right out of you.

I lived in Dae Han Min Guk for nearly five years, listened to, minimum, 100 complaints about this company, and think that nearly all of them, including the River Hill Road, Mapo Station, Seoul City franchise into which a Canadian lady dropped me, are not places in which one would like to teach anything, etc.
