It's not about being a homo, it's about being cultured. It's good to know something about the ballet too, doesn't make you 9ueer.

not true, the big stores always use good factories that are often inspected to make sure it meets the standard
you'd be surprised at how huge and technologically advanced many factories in SE Asia are

i cant say much about the salaries of the workers however, thats another issue altogether

Where did I say homosexual? Where did I say there was anything wrong with culture? Where did I say if you have some culture, you gay? Lord knows, many of the guys I know back home could stand to be a little more cultured, except the gay ones of course. They're great...except for the fact that they are not attracted to me. Confused

@cypher, sorry if that sounded like I was attacking you, I guess it's just normal to read all posts on this forum that way.

That is one of the interesting paradoxes of Western culture, that an intelligent person can be simultaneously a supporter of gay-rights, and also a homophobe. If a Western man wears a pink shirt, even his gay friends will call him a "f@g."

Andre Kim is an unique character. But still he is marganilized, his work has not atained the status of even many up-start Euro-American designers. His habit of using only white has it's place as a statement, and certainly the few collections of his that I've looked over did impress me, but where can it go? Knocking off every style in a white version seems sort of dead end. Can anyone find a biography of Andre Kim in English, or do a translation? I was looking into it the year before last, but couldn't find much besides his birth date. The kids told me he lives in Seoul, that's about all I've been able to learn.

gorgias, I've got a thicker skin than that, at least I should hope so after almost two years here Surprised I just thought it was interesting that all the responses seemed to be from posters who I think are male (though you never know for sure).

Re andre kim, I can't help you with the biography but there was something on TV a while back, must have been arirang, about him and his adopted son.

i think for classic elegance : calvin klein, ralph lauren and dkny

louis vuitton is to common and i think their luggage is really ugly and everyone has it!!!

Labels are advertisements.

No thanks.

But as I've said before: designer STYLES and QUALITTY and INNOVATION are worthwhile.

Koreans though are more interested in the Prada label than actually having Prada merchandise. sad, almost pathetic, superficial (yet, in a sense, better than all of us who internalize the designer names as synonymous with style and other values).

I bought an Ocean Pacific t-shirt in 1985 for $20. That was a lot of money for a t-shirt, but the huge OP label on the left breast made the expensive t-shirt more than worthwhile. Why? because as a 16 year old, tons of girls paid attention to it, were interested in me because of it, complimented it, it mattered to them and I knew it! I got at least two dates for sure because of that darn t-shirt, maybe two more, though it's less clear with those.

As long as designer LABELS attract women, some men will wear them.

I decided long ago - as a university student - to forego the dating advantages of labels, yet still was concerned with overall effect, with the look of quality and style, hence knockoffs and department store brands were okay as long as I thought I looked good in them, and as long as NO labels were to be seen.

Now, as a mid-thirties guy, I could care less about even quality. Styles is all that matters, and by "style" I mean, my style, clothes I like. Tommy Hilfiger has some awesome styles I think, but there is a lot of awful stuff too, I think, as exemplified by the most recent styles:

http://www.tommy.com/department.aspx?CatalogNavigationBreadCrumbs=TOMMY;MEN

Anyone who relies on designers to define one's own sense of style,... has no style.

(Which is not to say there aren't advantages to be had by wearing designer clothes.)

@VanIslander,

what don't you like about the TommyH you link too? It looks okay, however that Cricket vest does look rather starchy. It depends what you like, the stuff in your link looks rather casual and light, certainly a deep NY poet would not be wearing that.

If you're a Sears shopper who wants a TH label added to the front shirt pocket, then go ahead and get that horizontal striped blue casual.

Other casual shirts in the collection: paisley! (maybe for the NY mock-poet type), pink, pink plaid, purple plaid, light green with vertical pink stripes, etc.

The dress shirts with ties are something my dad would wear, "classic american" style means Sears rip-off with designer label it seems.

And the four sweaters are just awful.

The light green and pink highlights of the collection might look good on some guys come springtime, and the styles aren't all atrocious.

But as a whole, it's underwhelming.

Tommy has had much better stuff in previous years, IMHO (but hopefully not just my opinion!).

I agree with you, but I wasn't sure how much you liked the stuff at that link, so didn't want to go to hard on it.
