Nice Dell! Never seen a notebook with two disc-drives!

It's a 'mobile workstation' designed for the CAD industry. The bay in the front is modular and you can put an extra battery, a floppy, cd etc. I'm sure many if not most laptops have this option these days. And I don't have two cd drives (while my one drive is a burner I dfo all my burning on the desktop), I have an extra battery (this thing will pull your arm out your socket- it's definitely not "thin & light"!), that's just a picture of the same model I linked to in my post.

About the remote; I think you should go with an RF remote instead of Infrared. The RF you don't have to have pointed at the TV 'eye' all the time. I have an IR remote I bought in Korea and its not that great IMHO.

I understand and while you're probably right the reason I want to get this one is it has great reviews, is extremely programmable, and is selling for about 33% of its original cost. (if I still had the remote to the projector I wouldn't even consider buying it and right now the wireless keyboard and mouse work just fine, it's just my local store has this model on sale).

How do you feel about the resolution on yours? Is there any "screen door effect?" That resolution is supposed to match DVDs really well, right? That is about 90% what I would use it for. Maybe a few PC movies too. Am wondering if it's better for me to go XGA or WVGA.

Any thoughts?

I'm pretty happy with the resolution. As you mentioned, 480p is the same resolution as DVDs, so I don't really feel like I'm losing any quality there. Also, from where we sit in the room, about 12 feet back, you'd have to have like 20/5 vision to see the screen door effect. Honestly, from reading avsforum.com, you'd think the pixels on 480p projectors are about a square foot for all the talk about SDE (screen door effect) there, but honestly, for me it hasn't been a problem.

I have a inFocus hooked up to a 2.4 Ghz laptop and Logitech surround sound speakers; the screen is the entire wall of the family room (about 8-9' diagonal). Very sweet. Surfing Dave's and playing games is awesome but I'm going to be doing less of that as I want to save the lamp life for movies.

You surf Dave's on an 8-9' diagonal screen? That must be awesome...
or surreal! Shocked

Just a little to test out the system, it's not as fun as it sounds. Sitting and typing at the desk works better, and I don't have to worry about wasting lamp life.

Wasting Lamp Life.

It is a genuine concern, but...

When LCD or plasma displays barely half the size of most proj/screen setups cost millions of won more, having to buy a replacement bulb every few years becomes less of a concern. BTW, the 500,000 won price mentioned in the OP really has to be the higher end of the scale. None of the projectors I've owned needed bulbs costing that much. And most projectors now have a lamp-life monitoring feature, so you can easily plan months or even years ahead and pick up a bulb on your next trip home (where it'll be cheaper than Korea). Look around for deals -- sometimes manufacturers will offer the choice of a replacement bulb or a rebate when you purchase a new projector.

But still, you don't want to waste a projector's lamp life. Unlike a TV, which you might leave on without watching simply for background noise, you'll want to be much more conservative using the projector. While anything will look dazzling on a big screen, it's not practical and nobody even recommends the projector/screen option for daily TV-type viewing -- watching the news, couch potato-style vegging in front of "Friends" reruns, CSI, etc. Simply put, a projector isn't something to get instead of a television, but rather in addition to one. Unless you're unemployed and watching films one after the other, you're just not going to be chewing up lamp life that fast for it to be a decision-breaker.

If someone doesn't expect to be watching a lot movies at home, they shouldn't bother getting one. In fact, if they want a larger screen size "just because", then they might do well to consider a 45" projection TV which can be bought for under 1 million won.
