Yes yes but many of us have something called "feelings" and another thing called "empathy". Yeah, some people might not give a flying donut. Go in, punch a clock, collect a paycheck. Others value a work place where you get along with coworkers and don't feel icy daggers in your back every time you toddle out at 8 pm while they're chained to their desks until 10 pm. |
Dammmm...I sort of agree with both of you...and that has NEVER happened before... |
I hate you less since you made a good joke. Someone posted something about "have you ever dated a person from Dave's ESL?"
I waggishly posted "I dated Corporal". Funny, I thought, in light of my legendary willingness to say the ugliest things imaginable to you.
Now you could have responded 1) by ignoring the comment 2) saying something cutting and nasty. But you said "It was the best 6 minutes of my life." You played along with the joke and got in a playful dig in at my legendary inability to satisfy a woman in bed. I respected that. |
I forgot about that. The post, I mean, not the 6 minutes. |

Try to look at it from their point of view. At our haggie there are two Korean female teachers. One is 26 and she cracks me up. For example one day I asked her, 'do you like me?'. Because I'd been battling with dull axes with the other foreign teacher who speared me with, 'none of the Korean teachers here like you!' (like that's supposed to slay me). So I asked her, 'do you like me?'. And she looked at me funny like she was thinking what the heck is this guy thinking. Then smiled and said, deadpan, 'I don't like anybody here'. Which cracked me up and we both got a laugh. So she's cool. Another time I asked her if she liked the kids (certain kids, or 'who was her favourite kid?') and she said, 'I don't like any of them'. Same deadpan sense of humor. Flat out hilarious. She lives at home, in her parents house. Has her own room. Has a Tico car, used, family sold to her for 200,000 won. The other day I asked, 'how was your weekend?' and she said, 'not good'. I asked why. She said she went to a movie by herself. Like, didn't have a date. She's fantastically good looking though the same foreign teacher I'd been arguing with had said she 'has a face that would stop a truck'. Probably jealous.
The other Korean teacher just got married a few months ago. She is doing this job until she has kids, I guess. Before her there was a Korean teacher who already has two kids. She quit recently, after working here for four months. Both these female Korean teachers mind the managment more and don't have as much slack as the foreign teachers. They also look terminally bored during the office hours part of the job.
Once we went out to T.G.I Friday's and the funny one was, at that time, resentful of the Korean supervisor which may have led her to do what she did. That is stand up, and before stalking off leaving her steak dinner uneaten, snarl, 'this Western food isn't fit to eat'. The venue for the staff dinner was T.G.I. Friday's and Western style fare because the other foreigner had put in a request. And the boss complied. |
