Complete waste of money. Effectively another tax on the poor, as the fee will not be income-based.

Looks to me like the US should worry about being able to catch up with the demand for passports before issuing a national ID.

Passport doesn't fit in your wallet.

and many Americans don't have valid passports.

That's right. We spend only 4% of our GDP on national defense, but somehow we manage 24/7 surveillance of the entire populous. Wow, surveillance productivity is sure at its peak in the US.

I'd wager identity theft in Korea is a bigger problem than back home due to their obession with ID cards.

I wonder if they will require all people to use these numbers to create accounts on websites, fail to update the registry of foreigners, and create a cyber-apartheid.
