Who, Nirvana?
You couldn't be more wrong.
But that comes as no surprise to me.
Your taste in handles, avatars, and arena rock leads me to conclude you probably have a category named after you at www.mulletsgalore.com
Obviously you missed my Elliott Smith thread.
Hey look! I'm a mind-reader!
You just thought "Elliott who? Who is that fag?"
Don't deny it, I have the power of Carnac guiding me.
And why did you give up the Beavis schtik?
Was that voluntary?
Wow, '92 must have been a great year for you buddy.
When (not if) your Axl Rose account gets closed down because you PWI'd and acted like a douchebag, maybe you could start another account named after some other washed-up has-been arena rock-god- how about David Lee Roth? Billy Idol?
Maybe you could go in a different direction and set up an irie Marley account mon. No way you'd ever catch me dissing Marley.
I'd have your back, bro. |

In my younger days, I was BIG Guns and Roses fan. I was in love with Duff
I will be interested to hear this new album. I still enjoy their old stuff.
Have you guys heard the stuff that the group (I forget the name) Duff, Matt and Slash formed? I went to see them in concert when I was in London and it was very average.
I felt that the lead singer was trying to be Axl all the time. He even mimicked his stage performance.
We love you Axl !!! |

thanks for those enjoyable remarks, ilovebdt. thank goodness there are some posters who have SOME taste.
Bulsajo - i'm afraid i've just PM'd a mod about you because you're just a needlessly rude person. I'll take a wild stab in the dark and guess you're a middle-aged graying Canadian guy at the tail-end of an eternity in Korea at some 'university', but that pales into insignigficance compared to your sucky outlook on all things ROCK AND ROLL.
Arena rock, Punk, Death Metal, Grunge, Alternative, Classic Rock...it's all good to me. Why limit yourself? Oh and a link between....
me and Beavis: why? because Beavis was named after someone and had a photo of Beavis and Axl does similar, thus they must be the same person? act your age for heaven's sake man!
me and mullets: oh wow, how long did that hilarious analogy, steaped in originality and an ingenious talent for spotting the moment for a good wisecrack, take you to think up? 2 seconds? if that?
If you're gonna comment critically and intelligently on my beloved GN'R, like others seem to manage, by all means go ahead and we'll hear no more about this bull. else, simply be quiet. thanks. |

He could also go with other noteworthy figures from the early nineties, such as:
Bo Jackson
That way, he could amaze the Dave's ESL Cafe community with banalities like 'Bo knows ESL!', or perhaps 'Bo knows histonectomy!' You get the idea.
Another option would be Vanilla Ice
I think that we could all benefit from a daily dosage of Cool as Ice quotations, such as 'Words of wisdom: Drop that zero and get with the hero!', especially when referencing all the cool girls that flock to him.
This is merely conjecture of course, as Axl implied that he is not Beavis, and I'll believe anything a crapped-out rock idol tells me. |

Well then in the dark you shall remain, my dull-witted mullet-haired friend.
Needlessly rude? On the contrary, your tired schtik encourages, no- demands this sort of response, Beavis.
The Hulk got his account banned for much much less.

You're right, we should just have 'good' and 'bad'. I'd put Axl, Loverboy, Motley Crue, and Honeymoon suite in the 'bad' column.

Okay, direct question time: so you are saying you are NOT the same person who started the Beavis account? Well then the timing is certainly a remarkable coincidence- Beavis stops posting, the Axl account appears.

As a matter of fact, I'm still laughing about that one. If it wasn't so good you would have come up with a better retort.

Another direct question: ever heard of Elliott Smith? Before i mentioned him in this thread?
GnR and Axl are only rock gods to the musically ignorant. They are (were) pre-packaged products of the music industry.
There, I've said it.
Now go ahead and call me a music snob, because I am (even though I'm right). |

| Axl- assuming you are not Beavis- I pledge to no longer be unneccessarily rude to you solely on the basis of your choice of handle. (I reserve the right to be neccessarily rude on the subject of your handle and/or unneccessarily rude to you on other subjects as the need arises). |

Bulsajo,
No, I'm definitely not Beavis.
What the hell do you mean by my choice of handle? i dunno what that is!
I have no idea who Elliot Smith is either, enlighten me.

That's absurd.
you equate cheese-metallers like Motley Crue, Poison and all those jerks with GN'R launching into Paradise city....or Welcome to the jungle, it's so easy, out to get me, Mr Brownstone, You're Crazy (accoustic version preferred), One in a Million, Dust n bones, i used to love her, Rocket Queen. I realize we're all entitled to our own opinions and all that but HEAVENS ABOVE! You're taking the piss, as an Englishman would say!
What GN'R did was mix the hair metal scene of that time and mix it with Stones and Pistols inspirations. i'm no fan of hair metal (WASP have done some good stuff but otherwise i'm no fan of a very samey genre) but there was more to GNR than just hairspray, spandex rock. GNR were mean. It's filthy, beligerent, coke-snorting, booze-swilling, woman-hating, truly devastating rock and roll. and they wrote some great tunes to boot. And yes, Van Halen are great too.
What folks fail to realize all too oftenn is that Axl being hated adds to the appeal. he irritates the heck out of some people and that kinda flow goes down well with the likes of me. |

No it's not.
There are really only two types of music - "good" and "bad".
If you can get 10 strangers to agree 100% on any given list of music categorized that way then you deserve some sort of Nobel prize.

There's no point in getting into it- we'll never agree.
But yes, I thought you were Beavis and so was being unneccessarily rude towards your taste in music- I'll stop that now.

I will confess to liking some Van Halen.

So what if he's as a-hole, he's not your friend, he's a goddamn rock'n'roller! John Lennon was also an a-hole, as was Jim Morrison, Lou Reed, Sid Viscious, Pete Townsend, Mick Jagger, Bob Dylan, and countless others. His job is not normal, especially with heavy rock, it's an extreme thing they do. They HAVE to have angst, otherwise you may as well go to a James Taylor concert. They are f'd up people, and instead going out and killing someone they go onstage and explode, and make millions of people happy, or at least excited. Judging a musicians character is a pointless excercise. Judge thier music.
Now, I'm not one for nostalgia shows, and I won't be following the new Gunners. I stopped liking music like the Gunners at the appropriate age, 22. But there is always a place for that kind of music. And it's absolutely NOT easy to do. I don't mean technically. I mean, you have to capture something gutteral from in side you, something explosive, you have to catch the zeitgeist, and with Appetite for Destruction, the Gunners certainly did that. It's one of those rare heavy rock albumns where every song is a classic. It's just totally raw and stonking. And at the time, yes indeed, it was a totally orignal sound. Sure, as with all rock'n'roll there were recylced elements, but it was original brew, and topped with Axel's inimitable voice, and the songs, which were solid rock gold, bristling with angst, aggro, frustration, dispair, rage, nihilism, sleazy sex, and decadence. They also had indelible melodies which puts them a cut above most of thier hard rocking bretheren, and Slash's solos and riffing were original, memorable, and inventive.
Now, because thier music was so much about this explosion of feeling from the gut, it was inevitable that they struggled to keep it up. I called them classic before, but they are not a fully fledged classic rock band like the Stones, who stayed legitimate for a long time. I don't think they ever repeated an effort worthy of Appetite, and I certainly have no hope for Axel doing it now. It won't have the sense of moment at ALL any more. Just like Nirvana only really exsisted to capture the moment with Nevermind. Doesn't matter, they did it. And it's a hell of a lot more than most bands could ever dream of.
Welcome to the motherf*cking Jungle F*ckers!!! |

Are you thinking of Slash's Snakepit? Yeah, I never much cared for that. The guitarist who first replaced Izzy did an album that was pretty good. I can't for the life of me remember his name or what it was called.
Now they may as well be called The Axl Rose Band. Nevertheless, Axl's a good songwriter and if he's as meticulous with his studio mixing as he used to be, the new album should have some good stuff on it. |

My first show ever was GNR, Metallica and Faith No More, at the Stade Olympique de Montréal. The riot show. They were my fav band, they converted me to the Altar of Rock when I was down with Jazzy Jeff, and they played with no shirts on. Rock. But whats taken Axl so long?? Hes been sitting on the same songs for about 8 years, endlessly "retuning" them, and now finally, what?? The Greatest Album of ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!!
Nah, I heard about 3 songs, and it's so "blaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh"
How can you put out (supposedly soon) one of the most anticipated rock albums of all time and it just be so zzzzzzzzzzzz.........
I'm switchin on Guitar Wolf!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

GNR's "oh my god" song sucked. sounded a bit like Megadeth. that song was from the "End of Days" soundtrack, right? Jesus, that movie blew.
dunno whether OMG will be on the album, and hopefullt that's not an indication of the new style.

| But whats taken Axl so long?? |
he said in an interview (from 2000/2001-ish) that they/he just kept adding new ideas and always refused to put out the album until he was entirely satisfied. Axl has said that the new material is "complex". So that's one reason. The other reason i assume is that he's delaying the long-awaited mysterious album as long as possible to create an aura, a bit like Axl continuously coming on stage 1/2 hour/s late for no apparent good reason. I always thought the album would never be released and Axl's thinking was that it'd go down in some kind of rock n roll folklore, people forever wondering about the mysterious 'Chinese Democracy'. Axl's thinking, i bet, is the opposite of "well, hurry up, we'd better release this ASAP before everyone forgets about us". If the album sells well, does he deserve credit for those decisions? Yet another possibility is that Axl, having fallen out with all the GNR band members and being filthy rich, simply hasn't enough motivation to write and songs haven't been coming thick and fast exactly. i suggest the delay is for all the foregoing reasons.
what i wanna know is....why "Chinese Democracy"? It's a crap name, frankly, and totally un-GNR sounding dont you think? |

Right!
but it's not easy technically either. slash's guitar parts certainly aren't. it has the best of both worlds i guess - the punks out there can strum along with Izzy and Duff, and the fans of Eddie Van Halen etc can be kept busy doing Slash's solos.
I'm hardly great at guitar but if you tune down to E-flat you can pretty much nail the basics, although I still can't play the intro to 'welcome to the jungle' to save my life. |

| I confess to being an ex metal head guitarist for a few short intense years, and I can say honestly, with no hint of a lie, that after six months practice, I could nail the opening of Paradise City. That is actually a complex riff to play with the correct voicing and phrasing! |
