actually...
the payscale was just upgraded:
http://epik.knue.ac.kr/sub2/sub2_3_1.aspall the way up to 2.7 if you got it good. <should note that THOSE will START in sept. 06>
levels:
http://epik.knue.ac.kr/sub2/sub2_2_2.asp
i have only a b.ed and i'm getting level 1 (course, level 1+ would be nice...)
I've just been hired on. I am working in only ONE school in Busan...sort of in the sticks though...that's a pain.
I've also been told in "almost" no uncertain terms that I will have my FULL vacation time with no camps or extra classes.
It truly does sound like EPIK is a hit and miss thing.
Even in Busan (though for the most part, I haven't heard any of my half dozen friends have any problems with their set up).
b/c of this: I see that the payment levels will increase in the middle of my contract.
Does anyone know how that will work?
I have signed my contract for 2.2 (old salary) but will I automatically be given the increase in september OR is that just offerred to new teachers?
Has anyone been through that? |

Thank to everyone that has responded to my topic/question. However, I feel like this whole EPIK thing is...like you said a hit/miss situation. Now, maybe I can be persuasive and picky in where I get place since I have some pretty impressive credentials (the downside is, however, I have no ESL teaching experience which may work against me). For those of you who have worked for EPIK or know people who have worked for EPIK, could you let me know the recruiter who you were in contact with or where you were placed (only those who had positive experiences)?? I think that would be the most helpful for me because then I could try to pull some strings....if possible.
Thanks! |

No reason at all to go through a recruiter to work for epik.
If you decide to go with epik, apply directly & early & state your preferences. Its not an evil organization & will try to accommodate your wishes as best they can. But no guarantees.
If you're decided on one province you can contact that provincial Ministry of Education directly (contact info on the epik site) & they can make it happen. Your exact city or town of choice might not be available but they can be straight with you about whats available.
The "national" part of the program basically just handles recruitment, orientation, & setting out basic guidelines, but every province administers the program independently. I can only speak to Gangwondo (where I've worked with the program for 5 years) but I can vouch that here at least native speakers are treated quite reasonably.
You can pm me for more details if you want. |
