my girlfriend and I refer to this as "getting pounced." if I get pounced I ignore and leave the store. do they think that the fact that I can smell their breath will entice me to buy?

the solution is to buy nothing in Korea. Why would you want to overpay by a factor of at least 2 in the first place????

The E-mart workers also annoy me. Who would have thought that I would ever turn down free bacon?

If I absolutely must go to a department store in Korea, I try to go when it's busy. Otherwise you end up with 5 salespeople starting at you and following you around.

Once, when shopping for a tie at the Myeongdong Shinsegae on a weekday afternoon, I had different salespeople hold up any tie I even looked at next to a shirt, all around a large tie display. It got very annoying, but I couldn't get angry at a group of bored salespeople who genuinely thought that kind of thing constituted good service.

The older ones are watching you to make sure you don't steal anything.

The younger ones are just trying hard to be seen to be doing their job.
