If I absolutely must go to a department store in Korea, I try to go when it's busy. Otherwise you end up with 5 salespeople starting at you and following you around.
Once, when shopping for a tie at the Myeongdong Shinsegae on a weekday afternoon, I had different salespeople hold up any tie I even looked at next to a shirt, all around a large tie display. It got very annoying, but I couldn't get angry at a group of bored salespeople who genuinely thought that kind of thing constituted good service. |
