What of the "separation" religion & state? Hmmmm ...
|
maybe i'm way off here but i'm not really sure how a guaruntee of freedom of religion suddenly means there is a relationship between church and state.

Can teens also now smoke "holy weed" ganja on school grounds on the basis of their religious views & practices? Must be. |
Show me a REAL religion where ganja MUST be smoked at all times and not just as a matter of ceremony.

One would hope all that's needed would be ONE instance of a Sihk student using their "ceremonial" dagger as an instrument of violence in order to institute a legislative ban. |
I'd agree.
Of course, it seems your bent against religion is painfully clear.
Show me an instance where a kirpan HAS been used as a weapon of violence in a north american school?
They've been legal in california since 97.....not an attack yet.
They've been legal in ontario since 91...NOT an attack yet.
Now why don't you take the time to see how often they've been used in ATTACKS in society at LARGE?
Regardless as to what the precise teaching are concerning the kirpan, it is obvious that we/some of us are completely missing the symbolism of it all.

And we all wished we had an excuse like theirs for doing so
They don't live in India anymore, its not for their protection. A people should be willing to give up certain belief structures that aren't critical when they immigrate to a new country.
You would hope that carrying around a blade might be one of those. They aren't training for warfare which was one of the original reasons for carrying it
Though I guess if the Canadian Court system has determined that it is a religous right, then it must be. |

Why? If a kirpan has proven itself to be LESS dangerous in Western society than a baseball bat, why should they be outlawed? |
