Do you have to continually add drops to your eyes after LASIK or is that just for certain people?

I had mine done at eyence clinic in Gangnam last july. Best 2.3 million won I've ever spent.

There are quite a few ways of getting a laser eye surgery. There's lasek, lasik and lasik with laser beams instead of blades. The last option will set you back 4 million won or more, and is only done in this hospital in apgujeong. Meant to be the best way to get laser surgery, although the hospital staff were really pushy. They also charged me for the consultation.

Being a cheapskate, I didn't go with the latest technology and opted for the blade instead. Normal lasik will set you back about 1.9 million won but if you have a custom-made lasik, anywhere inbetween 2-2.7 million. I'm glad I had a custom-made one as I know friends who complain of blurred vision and dry eyes after a normal lasik.

I'm happy with mine so far, and apart from dry eyes now and then, very happy I don't have to suffer from glasses or contact lenses. I need the old eye drops occasionally though.

With PRK they often do one eye at a time with a month or two recovery in between.

This was not the case for myself nor the 3 other people I know who have had the procedure done. I would say that, regardless of which type of operation you have done, there are good clinics and bad ones.

I had mine done in Mumbai - $800 for both eyes
Manila - $1100 both eyes
Bangkok $1600 - both eyes

All clinics were very good. Bangkok was the best, then PI then India. I'd recommend Bangkok because of the excellent facility and the plethora of recoup friendly hotels. Manila and Mumbai and harsh places.

Thanks for all the replies. How many people have had it done here? (and thanks dulouz, I'll definitely give Bangkok some thought...I could handle a few weeks' "recovery" time down there Smile )

If you've had it done here, where did you go? I would at least like to check out a few clinics, consult with some doctors. But of course, safety first. Eyes rule and I don't want to lose them Smile ...improve them however.....

This topic has come up time and time again but still worthy of discussion. I too have considered LASIK but I wonder why so many optometrists still wear glasses while giving their patients vision-corrective surgery.

I've talked to doctors, including one optometrist, and they all say LASIK is good if you know what it entails. One thing you shouldn't expect is perfect vision and you could need reading glasses after you hit 40. Another thing is the danger to your eyes should you get hit around your temple area or eyes.

What's the danger of getting hit around your temples or eyes? (other than the obvious danger to anyone, regardless of eye surgery) I haven't heard of that....

What I've heard is that if you get hit in the eyes after getting LASIK surgery, you have to go back to your eye doctor for a checkup.

Do the clinics in the three cities offer laser LASIK?

I had mine done here about 7 years ago, and I have no complaints at all. I got mine done in Suwon. And I had terrible vision to start with, like minus 8 in both eyes. The technology is old enough that I don't doing it back home as opposed to here would make any difference.

I highly recommend this place in Bangkok. They were extremely professional. The cost was about $1700.

I've got a friend who is an eye doctor. He even did his wife's eyes, speaks fleunt english (educated in the states). Unfortunately I'm not in Korea at the moment and don't have his card with me.
I highly reccommend him. He's a great guy.
As soon as I get back I'm gonna get it done too.

Get a Korean to call information to find his office.
It's in Kangnam. (Maybe apkujong)
His name is Lee Tae Won. (not kidding, he's named Itaewon!)
