not at all, is that what you got out of my post?
I was making reference to people who look at the bad in places.....not seing the good because they are focusing on the bad. |

Cabbit,
I tend to focus on the bad.
But, I see the good.
Look at my avatar. Do I look pleasant?
No........ but that flower is for you!
Sometimes even I can smell the roses. Or is that a tulip?
Anyway, I am too busy complaining to notice! |

Have you viewed the Han River Bridges (Olympic Bridge) at night? Very nice... I think Seoul is better at night than in the day. It has its charms and it own character and should be appreciated for them.
If you really think that Korea is that aesthetically unpleasing to the eye, you should return to the "perfectly beautiful" cities in Canada/US/AUS... |

I wholeheartedly agree with the Fonz...Seoul at night is really quite beautiful. If any of you Seoullites ever get out of your computer chairs I recommend a trip to the "millenium plaza" and go to the top floor of the funny looking oval building...there's a restaurant called the Top Cloud, maybe the 33rd floor, can't quite remember. It's at the Chong gak subway stop. Just down the street from Kyobo Bookstore.
During the day, well...I'd say only the area directly around NamdaeMoon and City hall are cool. Not beautiful per se, but an interesting juxtaposition of the old and new. |

Cities are cities.
Seoul and Busan may not be gems but like others said they do have their charms and nice areas.
I love Busan and Seoul at night. There are nice areas in those cities.
As for the user who called the entire country "ugly" well...what can you say to that.
I think Sorak-san in the morning is gorgeous, so is Jiri-san.
Cheju-do was also very nice.
Kyungju is a pretty area-city with great temples and sites.
I like Korean mountains, great for hiking (I am NOT comparing them to other mountain ranges in the world).
Its all about how you choose to preceive things what you choose to focus on in the end. |

Whatever Korea's merits might be, it must be said that it's a very ugly country with ugly cities. I'm frequently SHOCKED to read on the job offered board that there are many jobs in "beautiful Seoul", "beautiful Pusan" etc...Who writes this nonsense? Clearly they've never been outside the country, or they're unscrupulous recruiters.
Korean, whatever t's other charms, cannot boast a single beautiful city. I've been here four years and travelled wdely. I have yet to see a city, or even town, that wasnt ugly.
And I haven't even begun to mention the absense of interesting architecture and parks, or the ever-present spit, vomit and urin on the cities' streets.

Hmm..... I think Korea is quite beautiful in places.. particularly in the mountains, on bus/train rides across country.. its amazingly beautiful..
As far as the cities.. they are dirty.. but I love the neon lights that are absolutely everywhere.. kind of illuminates the place.. i think the cities would be great for any kind of movies.. like Blade Runner-esqe..
As far as ugly cities in the world.. there are significantly ugllier cities in the world.. I can think of dozens in my country of the USA alone.. plus most third world countries.. Korea isn't a Japan.. and its not San Francisco/Portland Oregon/Seattle/Vancouver.. but it definetely isn't a Jakarta, Cleveland, or Manila either.. |

"I think Seoul is better at night than in the day."
And I suppose so, kind of like an Itaewon prostitute after your eighth beer.
Nevertheless, you still must wake up in the morning and face the hideous illusion. |

Ahh Man. I agree. I have seen the posts on ESL cafe with the "come to Beautiful Pusan" or whatever city they are selling.
You just have to remember it is advertisting. I mean would you go for a job if they where honest "Come to smelly and crowded Seoul - see the barf stains and hear the beautiful sounds of hoarking".
Not only have I seen the posts I have seen signs and commercials saying which city I was in was either green and/or beautiful. Heck look at a sign next to a apartment building being built and you will see a delusion the company is selling. Yes the future blah-wong apartment buildings will have trees all around it and inside. Beautiful scenery. Heck the whole building is surrounded by a forest and next to a lake. But look at the area with your own eyes you see the traffic jam and old crappy buildings. Where is the forest?
I am in Daegu and as a city. I find it quite ugly. But during the last month or two I have commented that some places have looked really nice.
Just say this much. Inner city - yuck. Some subarbs - nice or passable.
Also the season matters. Winter in Daegu and Korea just suck - brown, muddy and ugly. Spring and Summer quite lush a nice where there are trees.

cabbit this is my second year in ulsan and i have never thought of it as beautiful. the nearly perpetual cloud of pollution that hangs of over it really dampens my enthusiasm for it. However there are some hidden gems around the city but on the whole i dont' find it attractive. I think Busan is a lot nicer looking, but then i don't know busan that well. |

Actually no. You don't have to. You can pack up your bags and leave the country if you wish.
What's that? Yeah, I thought so. |
