Had no idea the Great North Oak Leaf had more poor peeps than the dirty, nasty bad Big Bully to the South.

Sorry, just a teensy hi-jack.

What is the poverty line being defined as? Do all states have the same definition as to what the poverty line is? I'm pretty sure that for a single adult, the line is at around $18,000/year.

As for University. Tuition at a top teir or near top teir university in Canada doesn't even come close to approaching tuition at a mediocre university in the U.S. It's getting more expensive though; my last year at Simon Fraser was about $3000/semester for tuition. I believe Quebec has the least expensive tuition in North America, however, if you're not from Quebec it is more expensive.

I was denied gov't student loans for the first two years of school because my parents made too much. My mother is a teacher and my father is a professor at a small college. A child from a standard middle class family won't have access to gov't student loans until he/she has been out of the parent's house for two years. Even after I did have access to student loans, I was denied grants because of my parents' income level.

It's more expensive to attend a Canadian university because beer is heavily taxed. Then again, the pot is cheaper. Laughing Laughing
