I know mine are being monitored because after working here for about a month, the director asked me point blank , "how come you have no money"?

How else could he know this?

I suspect that he was able to find out my balance in both my bank accounts, not just the one associated with the school. That is why I feel better about sending the cash directly home.

Sure, I may be worrying about nothing, but that's just it. In K-land, you just never know.

So, did you ask your boss why he thought you had no money? What did you say? You have to give these cartoon characters a hard time when the moment presents itself.

No, I was a bit flustered at the time and the only response I could come up with was that my recent trip to Europe was expensive.

But thanks for the idea, I'll use it next time if he asks again. Wink

This all seems pretty paranoid to me. I had to open a new account nearly every time I changed employers in Korea and never gave it a second thought. The last one, especially, treated me very well and I had no problem geting all the money I was entitled to.

Well, yes and no. This is my 4th employer, but it's the first one that has asked this of me... the rest were quite happy to deal with the bank/account that I already had.

Go figure.

Yea, you're paranoid. I doubt anyone has had money stolen from the back account that rightfully belonged to them. The banking system here wouldn't tolerate it.
