Nah. Not buyin' it. The OP indicates he's in Seoul which makes his question sound stupid. Had he started out, "I'm arriving next week. What's the video situation?" all the responses would have been very different (except for the chronic trolls).
| It struck me as a bit odd either way. I mean, assuming the person asking the question is already living in Seoul, then it's like asking: "Hey, what's up with all these buses I keep seeing go by? Where's everyone catching them things?"

But if the poster isn't in country yet and has never lived here, then wouldn't details on renting movies in Korea be on the old "I'll-just-figure-it-out-when-I-get-there" List?

Not that there's anything wrong with questions prompted by idle curiosity, however. Not every question on Dave's has to be of burning urgency, some life-or-death crisis emergency.

Indeed, when I think of the most jaw-dropping inquiries I've seen posters make, it's almost never from the newbies. It's the six-year veteran who wonders: "Anyone know how these ondol things work? I can't get hot water and warm floors at the same time.
" or "S.O.S.!! Got a washing machine!! Now, how the hell do you connect these contraptions? " | |

Good observation. I plead guilty to this.

When confronted by any machine, I memorize the movements necessary to make it do what it is supposed to do...a whole lot like a trained chimpanzee. Works just fine until there is a malfunction or I move to a new place with a different brand machine with different buttons. i.e.: trained helplessness.
I'm in TO now. I'll be in Seoul in a week.

Seriously, if you're going to try and insult anyone in regards to their intelligence, make sure you're not screwing up your own native language. Especially on a board full of people who teach english for a living.
