There are lots of people with Latino/Spanish sounding names who are Canadian or American citizens. |
Definitely. Tons of Polish, Spanish, French, etc names in NA. |

Any less than a Stojko or Thaikovsky or Rasmussen?
I don't get your reasoning. If immigration thought the name unusual they'd simply check the passport for citizenship, and the recruiter/employer would certainly check pronunciation to ensure native-level proficiency.
I had no problem. Though an Oigirl or two back in Canada sometimes questioned the origin of my name.  |

He's American, born in California, raised in New York City. He fully qualifies for an E2.
Thanks everyone for your input.
As for the age thing. I did write "preferably" so as to not exclude anyone. The director would like someone in that age range since every employee at the school falls within that range. Neither he or I would discriminate against qualified applicants that fall outside of it.
There is also no sex/race discrimination at the school. Currently 4 native English teachers, all male, 3 white and 1 brown. |

That is really awesome that you work at a school that is so open. I've only worked at schools that a) hired Mexicans on tourist visas to teach English or b) would not even consider someone with such a non-Anglo name. Better luck for me next time! |
