Maybe all us Americans should read this!

Umm.. this is from the UK Telegraph. This is basically the view the British mass media projects onto Americans.

The wording of the article projects all the common negative stereotypes the British have always had from a media perspective on Americans.

As for the actual guide of 'simple suggestions' from the Embassy.. they are fairly simple and actually pretty good things to post for people going overseas for the first time.

Actually I wish more embassies from other countries also told their people abroad many of the same things which included - speak slower to locals abroad, listen to others, don't lecture, think locally, and talk politics don't argue it.

Its almost ridiculous all the negative stereotypes the UK Telegraph decided to add in and throw in there way beyond what this 'guide' from the US Embassy actually says.

Hatred of Americans seems to be the raison d'etre of the French and Canadians, and apparently the Brits, too.

Ok, lets do a run down of what each country lets (or maybe sends) out that they shouldn't. Wink

DISCLAIMER: if you have no sense of humour, please don't go on...

Canadians = morons who define their country and themselves as Not American. Smug in their superiority of Canada (though usually humble on other things not doing with politics or Canada) and quite willing to tell you about it whether you wanna hear it or not.

Americans = arrogant jerks who couldn't be bothered to learn how to say hello and go into McDonalds and order everything in fast English and get angry when they can't seem to understand. Also have political God complexes.

Australians = neanderthals who start a fight cause they haven't since last week. Incapable of discussion outside women and alcohol. Oh, and Patchy, what's up with giving him a passport???

Brits = snobs who have amazing directional abilities as their noses are too far in the air.

Scots = are you speaking English?

South Africans = yes, yes, I know, whites are the master race.

Kiwis = yes, I know you aren't from Australia. You'd be surprised how many people don't actually care about the Maori. That's good, I definitely needed to know how to say that in Maori

Wink

NOW THAT WAS FUNNY! p.s. I am one of those arrogant-can't be bothered-to learn another language-Mickey D's swilling- My government is better than yours American. (not really but that post just was tooooo funny!..) All around stereotyping...as it should be! THANKS!

The Telegraph is a very conversative newspaper so favours negative sterotypes of anyone who isn't British, they don't just pick on you guys.

I lived in the UK for a quarter of a century and I can assure you that on the whole British people have no problems with Americans.

Christ, how many US TV shows have mentioned the 'bad teeth' sterotype of the English? Does that mean Americans hate Brits? Of course not!

Sometime, I got to say that some American are really off-bush, ugliest tourist in the whole world in terms of attitude and hygenic. As an San Franciscan, I shouldn't have say that, but covering the truth is a great sins.
I had been traveling to South Africa, Korea, Thaliand and India before, and many times I came upon seeing disgracing American sucks...attitude on bargaining price with the sellers and sometimes throw money on the floor purposely making difficulties for the seller to pick it up even when the deal is closed. Their room that they stay is always a mess and they always see non-American as dirt and less civilise people.

Thanks Pligg for the knee jerk reaction.

For me, I have definitely seen more rude Canadians than Americans. Of course, I wonder if that's because I barely work around Americans.
Don't ask my coworkers if I'm an ugly American. I don't want to know the answer.

As a Black Labrador, I am deeply hurt and offended at the tone and lack respect towards our race in this thread.

The white English and American elite have for a long time considered it their right to make fun of all types of dogs, right from working class English to Irish to Pakistanis etc. so now everyone doubts whether these elitists are just joking when they make such remarks.

hmmpf.
