What? No one's told you about The Twelve Scenic Sights of Ulsan?
We arrived a couple months ago - made lots of friends through our jobs, luckily. Haven't met too many other foreigners yet, though, and have been so freaking busy working overtime that we haven't made it out too too much.
So far, we've enjoyed a soccer game (Ulsan vs. Seoul) at Munsu Stadium, Ulsan Grand Park (requires several visits, IMHO), Wa-Bar drinking excursions, seeing the city from way up high on the Lotte Wheel, Benchwarmers at 3am, * at 4am, and walking the foot bridge across the Taehwa River from Old Downtown back to our neighbourhood. And the train to Gyeongju is really cheap too - easy to do a daytrip there.
You've probably already seen this, but it might also be worth it to check out the Ulsan Pear (online: http://www.ulsanpear.biz/).
*I might have totally spelled that wrong. I'm referring to the "hae-jong-guk" - pork-based spicy "hangover" soup.
Feel free to PM me. I'm still relatively new, too. |

Hello all,
I've been in Ulsan for about 7months now, and I live in Sam San Dong too...checked out Tombstones for the first time this weekend...was alright, busy, FA cup was on and it was rather tense and chaotic. So far I have been to Busan, GyeongJu, Eonyang, and Seoul and love all of them. Ulsan doesn't have too much to do in comparison, but fun times can be had if you search. There are some little jems littered throughout the city. I enjoyed The Royal Anchor (very near to Benchwarmers), there is a a pretty cool set of ruins (on the top of a "mountain") just across the river from Sam San Dong near Prugio and Aderaum Apartments. Ulgi beach-park? is quite lovely and the odd amusment type park is rather interesting. If anyone wants to know where to buy things I think I have that all figured out. Ulsan grand park is indeed quite lovely. Right...so that's me...if anyone wants to chat, all my info is on my profile. |

If you like going outside, there are tons of things to see in ulsan...
If you have a car or bike, you will have lots of fun. Loads of mountains to see, a few lakes, the whole east coast - great views (and great ride if you're on a bike).
Although it is easy to take the piss out of the "Twelve Scenic Sights of Ulsan", I thought they were worth going to, the areas were all pretty nice.
In the Bangorjin area there are lots of nice walks and the sea
Plus interesting to see hyundai - cars, ships, cargo.
Lots of foreign stuff there (restaurants, bars etc), because of the contract workers from abroad. Very wide mix of people from different countries (actually the most diverse mix I have seen in korea) - i guess it is partly due to the fact that it is all located in a very small area.
foreign bars, i dont have much clue on.
Ulsan is more than just downtown - loads to see, but try to be open-minded and venture out a bit. Ulsan is very large, much bigger than seoul in area I believe.... |
