A blonde, blue-eyed native English-speaking woman from North America will fetch 2.5 mill a month in the present employment climate regardless of training, experience and age.

Good luck whatever.

Oh that's complete B.S. Maybe if she looks like Charlize Theron and she is between 22 and 25, maybe. Then again, if you look as good as Charlize Theron why the heck would you even think about going to Korea to teach ESL?

If university classes begin in August, when do they start interviewing people for new positions?

It looks like I should plan on getting myself over there and living on my own for 4-6 weeks while I'm looking for work. Is that a reasonable time frame?

Also, I've been a volunteer for Proliteracy America, one-on-one work teaching English to non-native speakers. Will that count in Korea as relevant work experience?

The universities have already started interviewing for August and they will do so all summer long.

You could come over and do a summer "camp" and that should give you the Korean experience as well as allow you an opportunity to interview for jobs in the summer. Some of the camps are for high schoolers who will be going to universities in the fall. The pay can be very high and they sometimes include airfare.

Your experience with Proliteracy America should definately count as ESL experience. I would definately discuss it with any potential employer.
