From Coffeeman:
No. It has to do with the arrogance of Toronto people who vist Montreal or Vancouver and proudly inform the locals "I am from Toronto". Like we care!

Toronto is not like America's Chicago or New York. It's more like LA, which many Americans wish would just sink into the ocean after a nice big earthquake.

But the great thing is you do care! You stated a thread on us you sweet talker you. As a born and raised Torontonian I have to say it's heart-warming and flattering to know that my home is on so many Canadians minds all the time. I can also say that like any normal person I don't walk up to people and say"I'm from Toronto" - who would? Now when people ask I will of course say I am from T.O. as I am. Then you predictably get the tired old comments that usually begin with "Taranah!, I had a friend who went to work in...(insert tired and worn "why Toronto Sucks" anecdote here.)

Anyways,I always happily shrug off the usually baseless insults of my fellow resentful Canucks. As for T.O. being like L.A. more than New York; you cannot have any reasonable knowledge of the aforesaid places to make that claim, really now.

Now bring on the insults, my ego likes a good stroking.

Oops! I see I just referred to myself as resentful above. What I meant was...forget it. Just you Toronto bashers wait until the Leafs take it all this year! Ya, that's turning the tables!

We aren't bashers. We're truth-tellers. I lived in Toronto before coming to Korea. When the Korean guy at the convenience store near my house heard that I was moving to Korea, he said "Congratulations! You're getting out of this city!" I was chatting with him another time in the store when this middle-aged lady came in with a long face. He said "What's wrong?" She answered "Oh, I live in Toronto!" Laughing

Toronto is a filthy city. It doesn't have a deposit program for aluminum drink cans and PET botthes like other major cities in Canada. As a result of this, you can see empty cans all over sidewalks and people there throw aluminum cans in with the regular garbage. I am glad Toronto lost the Olympic games to Beijing. I'll bet the streets of Beijing are cleaner.

Living in Toronto obviously brutalized your psyche, Coffeeman.
Seek therapy.

Who's we? It sounds just like you going off like above. Seriously though how can I argue with such a comprehensive and rational statement? Toronto is just so dirty I sometimes think twice before I eat off the street.

Tell the truth now, did a T.O. girl do you wrong, or perhaps you had Joe Buck like aspirations but shared a similar fate. Anyways, now you know Toronto is not a place you can cut it so you can avoid it form now on. Lesson learned.

I was born in Montreal and then was relocated near Toronto due to parental coersion. There isn't a bone in my body that would list T-dot (haha!) anywhere near Montreal. But that's just me. I'm sure its the other way around for Torontonians. I can just back up my reasons with fact and empirical examples. Wink

I do find Toronto more unfriendly and cold. And full of social Machiavellians. But I like the little jabs and jokes. Its like insulting someone's mom and them insulting yours. I know my mom is cool and I love her. And I'm glad you love your mom, even though she really is a dirty tart. Actually, she's more of an ice queen. Very Happy

And the leafs. Worse fans in hockey. Can you guys even name three players on other teams?

Also, let's all stop comparing our beautiful cities with American ones. Toronto isn't like LA, and Montreal isn't like NY. They're distinct and we should all value this.

Anyway, any city that builds a giant johnson next to a giant womanly flower right downtown and bill it as an international tourist attraction must have giant balls to match.

I'm English. During my great-railway-tour-around-America I had to go to Canada for my railway pass (It's like $200 cheaper if I drop by Canada on the way...). Anyway I'd been to Montreal before, it had been awesome. I went there again, and, once again, it was awesome. I rank Montreal in the top 3 cities in North America (LA and New York being my others).

As part of my trip I also dropped by Toronto. As the 4th(?) largest city in North America, with the largest free standing structure in the world I was expecting it to be awesome. I rocked up at the train station, found out where a hostel was, looked at my map, and started walking on over there with my buddy.

Unfortunately me and my buddy had one of those tourist maps. Our hostel was in.. umm.. little liechtenstein or something. Some ethnic community. All I know is that it was betwene little Italy and little Poland. If you're walking from the downtown train station the distance looks real close. It looks like trainstation to Eaten center X2. unfortuntanately the map wasn't to scale so I ended up walking FUCKING MILES. Like 6 miles with a fuckin ass heavy ass bag. I hated Toronto because of their stupid ass maps as soon as I arrived.

After that, it RAINED. I'm from England, I know rain.. and you know what? I fuckin hate it. Then Toronoto rained on me. Whilst I was carrying my heavyass bags. Bastard ass city. I kept telling my friend, we're nearly there, we're nearly there.. if only we'd known the scale of this dumb ass fuckin map I wouldn't have lied like that..

Anyway I finally got to this hostel where they'd lied on the phone and actually didn't have have any room, but I got the manager to give his bed to me anyway and my friend slept on the floor, and I got fleas.

Ah-Fuckin-Sah.

On the positive side, there was drive by shooting just outside my door, which made the papers the next day, which made it somewhat worthwhile.

I then spent some time downtown.. blah.. blah.. I ask a local "Where should I go?" And they recommend... a fuckin mall, and obviously the CN tower. I can see recommending the CN tower, that is kinda cool.. but recommending me a fucking SHOPPING MALL as the next best thing? I could understand if I was in kabul or small town Korea... but in north America.. a shopping mall just aint that special. Your locals suck Torontonians.

The best thing I found about Toronoto was 'free' bus fares to Niagra (casino $10 of chips free!wicked time!) and then Chicago is only like 10hr away on the train. Chicago was awesome because Aaliyah died in a plane crash and I got interviewed by the Chicago Sun Times ("Ala what now? the boxer? wasn't he allergic to bees or something..?.. oh.. sorry.. I don't know much about North American Important Things.. sorry..")

I've Canadian, origianlly from Montreal. I've in Toronto for six years...unfortunately. Its a big corporate cog. Lifeless and booooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrring! and I can say that legitimatley. Montreal is the cool, fun city to be in. Its not called the city of festivals for nothing. The only saving grace is the Montrealers who've moved up there and giving this massive concrete blah borijng city some life.

I think Torontonians simply are in denial that their city is crap and that's why they get so defensive about it. Why do you think they lost the olympic bid twice?? Canadians from all other Canadian cities depsise Toronto, perhaps because its the 'big guy on the block' economically.

anyhoo that
s my two cents. straight from a Canuck.

I jump every time I see this thread,
because I misread the word "Toronto."
