Last time in China I saw some CRAZY contortions on tv. It was a group of some twenty or so women that not only did what was on that video but also managed to do it while making a full tower with one on top twisting around and doing what they all do, and then one scene where they lined up one behind the other, one locked arms with the first one, moved her body and legs up and over behind her head so that the front of her feet were facing in the same direction as her face, and then she tossed her to the next girl behind her, and then the next, and then the next, all the way to the back while maintaining the same position.
That sort of thing is inspiring though. I've improved my flexibility twofold or more over the past year and it's great.

But who REALLY missed the point? The thread is called "incredibly HARD Chinese acrobatics".

sorry perhaps the title isnt perfect, but there's reason behind it

it's acrobatic, it's really not ballet...

it IS extremely hard. i'm sure acrobatics takes quite a lot of dedication and training, but this is a little more than just bending a body in half, flipping, and swinging...it's a DIFFERENT kind of acrobatics

and with the pointe shoes, it's basically one of a kind

and they are Chinese

so there you go. there's the title

and boring? so maybe it's not flashy and wild, but she makes this look incredibly easy when she is one in a small handful of dancers, if not the only one, to pull this off

sorry if it's not up to your standards, show me something that impresses you

Indeed, I could see that it was incredibly hard, just not showy. The difficulty was not in big moves which require extreme levels of co ordination, it was actually in strength, in both her and him, and flexibility and balance for her. Actually, the most impressive move for me was her going onto toe point on his shoulders, simple as it looked, that required massive strength from both of them...

Yes, the scene where she balanced on pointe with one foot on his arm and then he started running around while she held a pose... I found it exquisite.

When I graduated from university there were two students who had maintained perfect 4.0 grade point averages. One of them was seventeen years old. Some people had the audacity to imply, implictly or explicitly, that the seventeen year old was more deserving of accolades. Just another example of "Well, I have seen better". Rolling Eyes

People who constantly feel the need to say things of that nature are usually overcompensating for their own perceived short-comings. Some people think that playing heliocopter in bed is a more beautiful example of acrobatics than anything else. Would they still be saying, "I have seen better?" I think not. He/she would dub themself the Acrobatic Spin God/Goddess of the World.

The lady and gentleman in the video were inspiring, graceful, beautiful, and talented. Thank you for posting the video.

I've seen my fair share of Chinese acrobats and entertainers (in person)but there was one show that took my breath away from start to finish. It lasted over an hour long with over 60 of the best entertainers from China. It was held at the now closed Splendid China in Kissimee, Florida.

This show was so exciting that it brought tears to the eyes of audiences. People knew that they were seeing something so special, so spectacular that it should be seen by royalty, nobility etc. And OMG the costumes were out of this world! Afterwards, we all had a chance to go meet them in person. It's such a shame that place had to shut down.

If Jinju had launched this thread, the title would have been:
"Hardly Incredible Chinese Acrobatics"

The presentation impressed me. I am ever in awe of our Chinese superiors.

Of course they were talented and very skilled and strong, but I wouldn't say beautiful. The woman looked like an ugly bobblehead 13-year-old. The man had nice legs though.
