Oh, come on. We're clearly better than all the European squads, save Holland.

You'd never beat the Czechs.

Well, my guys, the Turks are out this year, but the way they played against Switzerland, they didn't deserve to be in. The only thing worse was how they played themselves out of Europe against Latvia two years back.

So, like I said in the other thread about who you don't want to see win, I'd like to see any of the African teams win. Good for the sport in terms of diversity, nice Cinderella story, build respect for football in Africa, and a great prelude to the next cup in South Africa.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't an England team with only four regular starters beat the US team in Chicago last summer 2-0?

Cesky Republiky, pro me, je to real..........and with a goal keeper like this, they will go far.....even if Nedved is a bit hot and cold in his older years......

Cue drumroll. I've gazed into my WC crystal ball and produced the following predictions:

Probable winners: Brazil or Germany

Probable dark horses: Poland, Switzerland or USA

Probable dissapointments: Holland or Italy

Sinking without trace and entering footballing oblivion for the next
ten years: England, Spain and the Czech Republic

add Korea to the last group, no way they get a win, They MAY get a draw with Togo but no way the come close to France and Switzerland.

US as a dark horse, not sure. They don't play well in Europe for some reason I don't care how good they are. If this tourament was being played anywhere else and with a better draw I'd say they could go to the semis.

Germany as possible winner, no way. I'd take Argentina before them and I would add France as a possible winner

I can't see anyone other than Brazil winning the World Cup.
Germany will do very well due to home advantage which has always been a factor.
England will again promise much but fail to deliver when it really counts, as we always do.
It's about time Spain got their act together and the netherlands could do well.
Italy will get to the quarters, possibly semis.
I don't agree with Poland or Switzerland. Neither have a good enough squad, or even a good enough starting lineup.
South Korea could surprise a few depending on how other results go, but the real team to support has to be.......

Trinidad & Tobago!!!!!

Imagine tham kicking ass whilst drinking rum all day!!

Argentina has never won the WC in Europe and I don't see any reason for that trend to change. But I grant you, they have got some truly awesome players assembled and deserve to progress.

All I can say to that is that unfancied journeymen teams have a long and rich tradition of confounding expectation and accepted wisdom in this great contest. Think of Belgium '86 (apart from Schifo and Ceulemens a team of unspectacular players not really known to the footballing layperson) and Bulgaria '94.

The reason I stuck the Czech Rep in as also rans is the inescapable fact that they are an aging team in decline. Henry is up there with the most magnificent footballing specimens on the planet but truly what kind of service does he get in the French team? The woefully inadequate kind unfortunately. Not that much of its personnel has changed from the team that meekly allowed itself to be smothered into submission by Greece at Euro '94 either.

Holland couldn't pull it off with either the majestic 70s teams or the equally impressive 90s boys. Always lose their nerve at the latter stages, which is such a pity.

You forgot Jean Marie Pfaff, probably one of the best keepers I've ever seen. Belgium had a run of good keepers ... Preud'homme came after.
