So are people here saying that instead of calling when it's working hours in Korea potential employers/recruiters should wait until they are asleep, set the alarm and call you when it's working hours in USA?

| I always give schools a 3-4 hour window of opportunity to call me. Lo and behold, in April, someone called me at 12:30AM after I just told them to call between 7-12midnight. Needless to say, I read bad things about that school. If a school can't follow simple instructions, why should we be expected to jump everytime a school says jump? |

I think people are saying that what the potential employer, or more likely recruiter should show some consideration. Take into account that some hagwons don't open until 2pm. They also probably close around 10pm or midnight. So, call closer to closing time when it is mid to late morning where the potential employee is.
I did recruiting for a school I worked at for a few years. I made sure that I was available to call potential teachers when it was convenient for them. If that meant calling at midnight here because it is noon there so be it. If it meant waking up at 9AM to call them, so be it. It went with the job of trying to recruit someone. Considering the hours people are up here it isn't that hard to call someone at a time that is convenient to both parties.
From my experience, I don't mind a late night call once in a while. When that happens I let them know when they can call me. Since I wasn't staying at a place of my own I didn't want them calling and waking my hosts up at all hours. If they can't abide by that then I don't really want to hear from them again.
I had one recruiter from ENI who was a pain in the derriere. He would constantly call in the wee hours. Why? Tto tell about offers that I had told him in email earlier that night I wasn't interested in. Ended up telling him off plainly enough that I never heard from him again.
The recruiter I ended up getting a job through, Angel Recruiting in Cheongju, was very considerate of the time differences. When they did call late it was for a good reason, and didn't happen often. |

I think SPINOZA said it best.
flint makes the assumption that hakwons are open late. Some are, some arent. Mine closes at the latest by 8:30, sometimes 6 if my evening class cancels......
I think it's pretty simple. If you assume that because they call you at an odd or inconvenient hour, that they will be poor employers....then dont take the job. On the other hand, I would be impressed by a potential employer who waited until my waking hours to call me.... |

Man..it is business hours not potential teacher hours.
That makes sense no?
The employer will call the applicant during his business hours. It is up to the applicant to make himself available for an interview at the convenience of the employer. That is a pretty basic job market rule. However, if the teacher in question feels that 11:30pm is too late and that he will miss out on his beauty sleep then he can just turn down the job interview and wait until he finds a job that can interview him at his convenience (yes that makes perfect sense and thats how people get good jobs ).
Plus what ajuma said..! That was right on the money. |

Thanks! Not trying to be cranky-as I have a job to do with American kids at 7am each schoolday-I just wondered if calls after 11pm were a signal of a schoo director who's overly pushy.....

| At worse it is a sign he has not taken into account the time difference. |
