Did I try to change?
Yes, I did. I became more aware of everything I was doing or not doing. I did my best to be a hagwon cheerleader. I tried to be more fun, but then I was too fun. Aish. No big deal. No worries. I'm laughing.
No I wouldn't want to stay here, but perhaps I could get more money out of it? Sorry-to-screw-you-but-here's-a-little-cash-for-the-trouble fund. Sub Kooch Milega.

| OP. I'm curious why it was specifically middle school girls who chose to dislike you. I could imagine that if you are young and good looking, perhaps the girls talk you up at home and mommy feels you are a threat...? |

Young and good-looking. yeah, I think so. A few other people have. I stand out in a Korean crowd that's for sure. And then in a Wae-gook crowd as well. I'm not really sure why it's middle school girls. I also don't know how much to believe in these complaints. When I spoke to the girls that were "complaining" they only had the nicest things to say. So I don't know what to believe or think. I really don't care too much either. I don't really like stupid people and I can say that my boss is a stupid person. She's worried about the rumors that will start to fly and perhaps rightly so. Or she could nut up and say, "No he's alright. He is from the other side of the world." But that didn't really happen. Diversity is not encouraged. At least not where I'm sitting. Cheers
So I don't really know why it's middle school girls. |

You have no options with the labour board as in your original post you stated you had only been working at the school for 3 months. Until you get to 6 months you are basically non-existent to the labour board.
Finish your month and in the meantime look for a new job. Be sure to get a release letter and when you finish your month be sure your employer cancels your visa. Then you'll be free and clear to take on that new, better job.

OP. I cant imagine that the girls/complainers you spoke to would ever admit that they complained. i had a student complain about me (the S word slipped out when i stubbed my toe hard enough to eventually lose the nail). I heard him complain to the director as i was just around the corner, yet ten minutes later when i asked, he flat out denied it. We had a lesson in telling the truth that day.
You wrote, "She's worried about the rumors that will start to fly and perhaps rightly so." ...perhaps rightly so?... Gee, I hope that was a typo..... |

If you sometimes teach them from the back of the classroom you can also make sure everyone's doing her work and no one's playing with a handphone or scribbling notes to pass to her friend.
Seriously, though, unless it's _________ mom complained about _________, don't bother taking them seriously for a minute. The management obviously doesn't like you so it looks like it's time to get a haircut and get a real job. |

What I'm saying is in the end, she's a business woman and looking out for her business interests. If rumors start flying around and they affect her business then, from a business stand point, maybe she should be worried. It irritates the crap out of me that I'm in a very high school-esque setting, but that's life. I don't buy into it or approve of it by any means, but that is the immediate reality around me. So....what I'm saying is this...if kids talk and then parents talk and then kids leave, then that's bad business. Proper shite, but bad business. D'you know what I mean? |

| Sorted verbally. I am working till the end of the month and then they will give me my money for a month and the LOR. Unless they get nasty and I'm smiling like it's nobody's business to keep them from getting nasty. I'm taking them on their word about the money and the LOR, but I don't see that I have many other choices at the moment. |

Ok,cool...if any action needs to be taken, just cross that bridge when and if you get there.
Certainly don't let them try to tell you you have to leave dodge.Sokcho is a pretty big town anyways isn't it?Not like you're going to bump into them at the supermarket every day... |

Does nobody else find it hard to believe that they would fire a guy 3 months in for no good reason at all? They aren't trying to rip off his severance or save any cash on anything....what's the motivation?
Yeah, I sound like I am siding with the boss here, but just think about it. They went to some expense hiring this guy, then they just cut him loose? There was most certainly a problem of some kind that the boss thought to be beyond working out. This indicates a personality problem between the OP and their students/staff.
Sounds more like although the boss is being pretty hardline, there is something about the OP that was rubbing the students the wrong way. You should just leave. Koreans talk like you wouldn't believe. Even if your letter is good, if you have made enough people uncomfortable, no other hakwon will hire you anyways. Sokcho is small...too small to be a bad apple, even if it is only a perception. |

| i agree with Demophobe. at three months, the institution is taking a hit. I think there must be something we dont' know.....just my thought, not an accusation against either OP or institute... |
