call me what you will, but i really liked the book. it was a real page turner for me. i lost a night's worth of sleep because i couldn't put it down. for those of you who say you could do so much better, please do so. i need something new to read.
and another thing that will probably mark me as a peasant, i like tom hanks too. there's something about him that makes me enjoy every movie he's in. i'm looking forward to seeing the davinci code movie. i'll let you know my honest opinion after i see it.

I liked the book too, it was pretty good and had a good momentum. Angels and Demons was better though imo. Not gonna rush out to see the film though cause figure I will only be disappointed, rarely if ever like a film if I have read the book first, will wait till it's on DVD

I don't hate Tom Hanks, and I don't know enough about the book to know whether he's right or not. But in the film stills he just looks out of place. And a lot of people are saying he was miscast.

But maybe I should leave my judgements until after I know what the hell I'm talking about.

I lost all interest in the movie - I read the book and thought it was good, not great - when I heard Hanks was going to be the lead. It just got worse when they added the lead actress. I love both those actors, but can't imagine either in their respective roles.

A sexy and somewhat ruggedly handsome, yet bookwormish guy... Ruggedly handsome? Just can't imagine the character with anything less than a baritone voice... Hanks?

A statuesque, athletic, bronzed brainy beauty?

I read the book and thought it was really good......but the movie was just OK. I agree that it was too rushed and that Tom and the french actor didn't really suit the characters in the novel. But i did like the ending in the movie.... the bathroom shaving scene was hilarious. Laughing

If I thought the book was P.I. pulp fiction tarted up to look like an Umberto Eco prodigy, is there any chance I will find the movie worth seeing?

Wow, what a poor movie. I guess if you hadnt read the book then you'd enjoy it but Dan Browns writing is so filmesque anyway it was like watching a movie i'd seen already, only the story and actors had gotten lots worse. ...

Filmesque? Not even close.

That said, I agree the movie was not great and I wanted to like it.

With all the negative comments about the movie, I wasn't expecting much. I guess that's part of the reason I didn't think it was too bad. I didn't read the book, either, so maybe that helped. I'd say it's better than a lot of other movies I end up seeing in the theaters.

I didn't read the book. So here's my take on the movie. Not terrible, but not great. It got boring in parts, and the characters were not as interesting or credible as they could have been. The action sequences were quite a let down considereing what can be done with action these days. It lacked tension. It should have been more of a suspense thriller if you ask me. And I found the background story quite unconvincing. The ending was also not much of a payoff.

As a devout non christian, I thought the concept was exciting and really wanted to enjoy it. But alas, it did not live up to the great potential in the sourse material.
