Thanks ttompatz. Good info.
My personal experience with KB is that they do not offer a debit card to foreigners. A credit card is available, but you have to freeze 1,100,000W to get like ~900,000W credit limit.
Blue Cheer: I looked for the KB Expat Card but couldn't find it, so I applied for the KEB Expat Card. Maybe it's the same thing after the merger. |

Update: I wasn't excepted for the KEB Card because I work at a "private business" (Hakwon) and not a corporation or established business.
Does anybody have a BC Card and has an E-2 visa? A Korean friend recommended that card to me, but I don't know how I can get it. Or alternatively, does anybody have a good bank in the Hongdae/Shinchon area that provides a good check or credit card for ESL Teachers? I'm changing jobs soon. |

Worri has a BC card that you can have but you have to open a term deposit as security (cause you work in a hakwon).
Write down the information (including phone numbers) from my first post here and go to you nearest Woori branch. Have the clerk call the call center (for translation purposes) and they will have you set up in about 30 minutes. |

I repeat: Samsung Card.
I haven't heard of a foreigner getting rejected for one. |

I got a Samsung card. Dunno if there's an annual fee, but I didn't put anything down on it. They even let me set my own limit (which I set pretty low, since it's not roll-over credit & has to be paid in full each month).
I've been happy with it so far, and it makes life a heckuva lot easier here. . |
Same with me... There's a lady who comes to our office twice a year trying to get foreigners to sign on with her (Samsung Card), and she's really pushy. It seems she gets paid 5,000w for each 100,000w you spend on your card. She said "you spend many-many please" to me when I signed up, which kinda grated me a little. She even came back a month or two later to ask a co-worker of mine why he hadn't used his card yet.
Samsung wants your business. But I'm unaware of any perks (% off stuff), and you have to pay the balance off each month (it gets taken out of my bank account). I just look at it as a debit card with no charges. Man, has it ever been convenient! I'm told it's good internationally, but I haven't tried it yet.
Oh yeah, they gave me the choice of getting Master Card, AmEx, or another one I've forgetten. I went with AmEx, cuz I already have a Canadian Master Card... |

I love wasting the time of the LG card people at those kiosks in supermarkets. "What you can't give one to a foreigner? I have an F2 visa, no? Oh well I better ask samsung " |

Ok so I can't find any information on the Samsung Card. I found a website at http://www.samsungcard.co.kr/ but it's only in Korean, and the phone number someone listed on an old Sticky thread is not working anymore. Anyone know a phone number, website, or physical address? |

I believe that Samsung Card is the only credit card they accept at Costco. So if you want to shop there and use a credit card then the Samsung card has this benefit. |

Try calling 1588-7800 for Samsung Card although I'm not sure if the number is still good. |

There are 3 phone numbers on my statement. I don't know enough Korean to figure out which one you should call for a new card, but here they are:
1588-8700
1588-8900
1588-8600
I have a friend who wants to sign up, so I'm going to ask at work tomorrow which number to call. If I learn anything more specific, I'll post it up here tomorrow. |

There's an "English" link in very small letters right at the bottom... and it appears to not be much help at all. |
