| I have been at the same hagwon for 2.5 years. All I had to do to renew for the next year was go with my director and get my ARC stamped. |

| Cool, that's the answer I was looking for, operating under the whimsically optimistic notion that I may love the job and wish to sign up for another year with them. If that's the case, I don't have to leave country and submit all my sh*t again, right? Cool. |

| You only need one per year and that is for the visa application. Do not send one for each job you enquire about. |
Question. I'm all set for my first teaching gig in Korea, got my visa, got my ticket. Does the above mean that, should I decide to stay another year at the same school, I'll still need to go through the whole damned process? There's no mechanism in the system to renew without all the hassle? |
IF you renew at the same school then you are NOT getting a new visa, just a visa extension. That process involves a new contract, some paperwork from your boss, your ARC, an application form and 30,000 won.
IF you change schools then you repeat the visa application process all over again with a full set of new documents AND usually a trip to Japan.

i think the whole sealed transcripts and original copy of the degree depends on where in korea you go... i have been here since the end of march and all i had to do was show the offical notarised copies of the docs i had done in nz and that was more than sufficient to get my e2 (they did not want to see the actual transcripts!!) i brought them anyway just in case.....
when i went to immi to get my arc they didnt want to see anything except my schools details and my passport
strange... |

What the bloody hell is a sealed transcript? I have a Statement of result sent to my agent and it is sealed with the stamp of the university and they said it is not a sealed transcript.
Also, is it necessary to send all you original apostilled criminal record and statement of degree? Can they really expect you to send this on without the promise of it being returned? Is it not enough to bring it with you for the induction process?
Applying for the EPIK SMOE program has been one of the most depressing tasks I have ever engaged in, wrapped up in so much unnecessary red tape that it makes you worry how draconian the education system when I get there! |

Not sure about Oz, NZ, SA, Ireland or the UK, but I believe in the US and Canada a transcript is defined as:
"[A]n official copy of a student's academic record. Every course and experience for which you have earned academic credit is listed. Every course that you have completed is listed as well as courses that you have withdrawn from after the registration or withdrawal deadline has passed." (Source: http://gradschool.about.com/od/glossary/g/transcript.htm )
An official, sealed transcript is one issued directly from a university w/ the university's official seal affixed to it and that has been placed in a sealed, unopened envelope by the university registrar (if it's opened, then it's no longer considered "sealed" and therefore invalid to use for an E-2 visa application). |

That's what I did.
I've got 8 of them

When I went to get my sealed transcripts, I had them sealed with the university stamp (I went to a new university which doesn't stand with much pomp and ceremony, and as far as I know, they don't actually HAVE a seal for transcripts (we didn't even have a shield, for heaven's sake - we had a hologram as a logo instead)). I spoke to the Korean Consulate in Sydney and they were okay with that.
Some universities will do a bulk deal where you pay full price for the first copy of your transcript and then less for each one after that. |
