England making the final 8? What are you smoking because I want some!

They've played for ass! Laughing

And it's not because they're "just playing conservative".

Getting to the last 8 will probably involve beating the footballing giants of Ecuador. Better get out that crack pipe.

So far what I have seen is that Ecuador has been more impressive than the mighty English.

I believe England will get better as the tournament progresses but if England were to play ecuador tomorrow I would select the South Americans.

Yes, Argentina putting together some divine attacking passing sequences in the danger zone, and finishing decisively. I love thier style of play. I hope they go far.

Please remember who Ecuador have played.
The mighty Costa Rica, who are shocking to be honest.
Poland, who England finished ahead of in their qualifying group.
Anyone who says Ecuador are better than England obviously doesn't watch a lot of football.

well JL, apparently you missed the ugly match against Paraguay and didn't notice that Englad was in rough shape against powerhouse T&T until the last few minutes of the match.

England has looked pretty weak against two also-rans. We'll see how they do against some of the better teams. What has Beckham done this World Cup besides garner huge media attention? Razz

Its in their blood: a nation made up of Spanish and Italian immigrants.

Not quite sure why everyone is writing England off yet.
Yes the two performances were weak but, we have the points, and more importantly Rooney is back. Having Rooney back is like Brazil having Ronaldinho, the Czechs having Rosicky, the Germans having Ballack ,etc. He's crucial.
The reason for the poor reults was that the defence was packed. Just look at how Angola did against Mexico last night. Same situation as England v Trinibago.
Look at the group stages in tournaments we've played in. England always struggle to qualify. it's the way we do things.
I would only rate Ecuador if they beat Germany, and then we'd end up playing germany in the second round, who apart from home advantage, have nothing that could cause problems, although home advantage is huge.

Incidently, the last time England had two clean sheets in the first two games was in 1966!!!

Mentioning Rooney and Ronaldinho in the same sentence, in that context, seems absurd. Ronaldinho outlcasses Rooney in every category - AND he actually has a personality; as opposed to Rooney, who has the character of a dead mushroom.

I'm glad Rooney has come back. This way when England gets hammered they won't whine about how things would've been if only they'd had Rooney.

Namaste.

There's nothing wrong in mentioning Rooney and Ronaldinho in the same sentance.
They are both crucial players to their respective teams. I guess your ignorance is due to not having seen Wayne Rooney play. In the world of football he is respected as one of the most talented players around, and for someone his age, he has already accomplished a lot.
May I ask where your nationality lies, seeing as you like to put down England at every chance?

What difference does nationality play when faced with qualitative and quantitative distinction? Aside from ad hominem, NONE.

Rooney may have done groovy things, but he isn't half the person or the player that Ronaldinho is.

I put down the English team because they seem to inspire such vapid support, irregardless of competence. The team has a combined IQ of somewhere less than 300. They don't embody any personable qualities I find admirable, which makes them easy fodder.

Namaste.

I assume you basically hate the English then, as none of your arguements have focused on anything other than putting down English players.
