When I handed over my passport for my alien card, I made sure I had a photocopy, just in case. Well, when all of the new teachers went together to the bank to exchange money, I was the only one who could because I had my copy.

You should always have a photocopy someplace safe anyway, in case your passport gets lost or stolen.

Hey MB, just because we don't always see eye to eye doesn't mean we can't get along.

My old roommate is a much-hated poster on this board. He and Squaffy got into some heated words a few times, to the point of personal attacks. Afterwards, Squaff PM'ed my roommate and said: "hey, it was fun, I'll buy you a beer." Which I thought was cool. Or nuts. I never decided.

So in the spirit of that, yes, you're right: it is much easier to replace a small sum of cash than to replace your passport.

Yeah, sure,I agree.Let's get along. My comment about you being King of Kwangju was not meant as an insult...just a little gentle ribbing...just being a bit sardonic.Of course you are right that everyone does not share the same opinons. If we did, it would be a boring world, and there would not be much of a reason to have this board. Smile

One more instance of where you have to hand over your passport for a time:a foreign embassy IF you intend to travel to a country that requires an entrance visa. This past winter, my passport was in the good hands(ha, ha) of the Chinese Embassy in Seoul for almost a week. I was MIGHTY glad to get it back....

I'm never averse to a bit of gentle ribbing. And the name was always meant to be ironic.

You were fearful of your passport being in the hands of the Chinese embassy...but not fearful of your person being in the hands of the Chinese government on your arrival? Rolling Eyes
