jajdude...sounds like it's time to start from scratch. Do you have a legit copy of the OS...Windows?

What is OS?

I just got a strange problem as well. Volume is off. Not muted. Don't know what's up. Maybe upon off and on again it will work.

Sorry....Operating System. Probably WinXP. If you have the CD, you can quite easily wipe the hard drive and start from scratch. It may be the best way for a computer riddled with problems.

If you decide you want to do that, post back and we can help.

Ah yes, it occurred to me a minute later that OS = operating system.

Still no volume. Puts the music option out. I am on Windows XP.

My computer is a Toshiba if that matters. I was given a "Recovery and Applications/Drivers DVD (Satellite A15)" CD, when I bought it. I am not sure what it is for, except it seems it can be used if the computer simply isn't performing half as good as it should be.

Right now the only thing that's annoying me is the kaput volume. I don't mind the other things much, but I like to have to some music.

EDit: Volume just came back out of nowhere! Weird. Cool. I'm happy again.

jajdude...it's a laptop? If so, could you post the model number? If not, could you post some specs? Just for interests sake...

something that keeps getting overlooked here is that you have limewire installed on your system...

IMO, limewire is a piece of junk. i used it when i got my first computer and it slowed down my system to a crawl. that network is infected with a lot of virus (viri?) and fakes.

If you want to download stuff, you'd be better off going with torrents,

So limewire is the problem? I thought it was OK.

What specifically should I use instead?

I have heard of "torrents" but don't know how "they" work, or which to use. I have a friend who may help, just thought I'd ask here. I really am a novice.

firstly let me say that could well have a virus on your computer like the others are saying... i don't know. However it is in my experience that limewire is rubbish. so...

personally i recommend uTorrent. It hardly uses any cpu or ram so you won't notice it running on your system

first look at this tutorial
http://www.poromenos.org/tutorials/bittorrent/download

Then download utorrent from here..
www.utorrent.com

there is a set up wizard when you first run it... as you saw in the tutorial. make sure you follow that and you should be good to go...

to get you started, you need to visit webpages to start downloading (to get that torrent file you saw in the tutorial. a list of websites can be found here:

http://www.slyck.com/bt.php?page=3

good luck!

perhaps you should also consider getting a better antivirus system such as kaspersky or nod32. once you've got torrents sorted out, give me a PM and i'll see if i can hook you up with a hacked version.

OK, I checked out those sites and downloaded utorrent. I still don't know how it works though. I tried downloading something, but, er, I don't know what I'm doing. Is "Avast!" not a good antivirus program? The torrents seem a bit tricky to use.

A little tricky to begin with but you'll get the hang of it in no time.

Did you manage to sucessfully download something yet?

Nah, have not figured out the torrents.

Recently had some problems with Firefox browser. Silly me, I just downlodded "SPybot" and it found 39 problems. I was oblivious that the other stuff did not protect me enough. I put in the Opera browser and it seems better than Firefox and definitely better than Explorer.

Have not been able to get MSN Messenger running for a week or so. Maybe uninstall and re-install would work?
