I'm also going to Boracay and I have a few questions;
When I get to Manila, what is the best way to get from the international to the domestic airports?
How much is the taxi fair?
When I get to Caticlan, will it be difficult getting to Boracay?
thanks |
Once in Catlican (a very small town).. you'll just take a 15-minute ferry over to Boracay. Very easy. Ferries are going back and forth all day long all the time.
Not sure taxi fare between international and domestic airports.. but if you fly on Philippines Air, you'll avoid that, as they have their own airport for all their flights (domestic and international). |

Assuming you are arriving before 10pm
if you are NOT taking PAL, then after you exit the terminal building, turn to the LEFT (do not cross the roadway) - walk about 50m to the overpass. Cross over the street - jeepneys or buses will take you - but do ask first. Keep a watchful eye (on the right) - it comes up fast with little signage. 5 or so pesos for a jeepney, 10 or so pesos for an air-con bus. If you arrive after the last pass, take a taxi - they will try to rip you off, insist on the meter.
if you taking PAL, then exit to the RIGHT, walk down to the main road - about 150m - there is a taxi stand there. |

Thanks Tiger and Ken for your replies.
I'm leaving on Thursday and i'm so excited.
Since it's off season, i'm thinking about just finding a hotel when I get there. Do you think that will be a problem?
Or will I save a significant amount of money by booking online first.
I'm looking to spend between $45 and $90 a night for a room. Preferably one with a pool.
I'll be staying with my girlfriend so will I need a twin or double room (not sure about the difference)?
thanks again |

You will pay the Kano (overpriced tourist rate) price by booking on-line.
Get off the boat and take a walk down the beach. You will find signs outside the places around boatstation 2 advertising from 800 pesos.
Walk up the beach and you will find prices from 500 to 5000 pesos per day (usually including breakfast). 500 pesos = man won.
In your price range you can get a room at any place on white beach. The regency is around $90 per night. Nigi nigi next door is about $45. Rooms at Alices can be had for as little as $15. An airconditioned (with-tv and pool) room at A-Rock is about $25.
When you get to Caticlan (I assumed it was you flying into there), then get off the plane and ignore the touts at the counter trying to get you into their hotels (you pay extra cause of them).
Walk out of the terminal and catch a trike down to the beach. Have some coins with you. Pay the guy 20 pesos (coins or an orange bill).
Walk into the harbor terminal. Get a ticket from the window. It will cost you 50 pesos. The boat will take you to boatstation 2. Make sure you are wearing shorts cause you will get off the boat into water up to or just past your knees.
Walk up the beach to the beach road and then take a stroll. You will see signs on the beach or you can walk into the reception / desk areas. Ask the price for a room with aircon and ask what else they have. NOT ALL rooms or hotels have TVs and only a couple have a pool. Some include breakfast and some don't. Be sure to ask what is included in the price.
Meals along the beach will run about 100-150 pesos per person. Cheap places serving Philippino style food will get down to as little at 40-60php per meal. Ignore the touts on the beach. You can always get a better price by yourself by just asking.
Nigi nigi has the best happy hour on the beach - 4 hours long.
I haven't been back there since the fire so I can't tell you about the old market and what they have done with it. Used to be lots of good and cheap food down in there. There was also a couple good places at Da Mall.
