ttompatz, cubanlord...

You are both right. 400,000 won won't get most people the system they want, but if they are willing to settle, it will get an adequate one. Not "crap", but not "good" either.

I refer to my own setup these days as "painfully average". Laughing

P4 2.8 @ 3.5
2GB PC4500
250GB WD x 2
ATI 9800XT 256MB.

I am thankful I bought the 256MB card though. It was plenty expensive; the first card with 256MB and DDR2. The extra RAM is what's saving it in modern games. It still handles PREY, Quake 4, Doom3, etc... at 1024x768, everything avaliable on high, so I can't whine (too much).

Two weeks ago I got a machine I would say is capable for 300 000. AMD 3200, gig ddr, gforce 6600 256mb, dvd burner, 80 gig sata.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that could handle half life 2 with reasonable settings.

I didn't get the impression by the first post that he was a hard core gamer.

HL2, Source, is a very forgiving engine.

I'm surprised you haven't upgraded recently, Demo! Especially with all the help you have been lending people into dual core setups with Geforce 7900gtx video cards.

I bet you still have that extra power supply connected through the back of your rig, don't you?!

I have been waiting for a long time for the grand "Demophobe's upgraded system" thread. That will be a good drool factor read, I'm sure!
