I think the people working 6 or more classes a day are letting themselves be taken advantage of, unless it was by choice and you're being paid overtime for it. I did 7 classes a day sometimes at my last job, but that was partly my decision, as we felt it was best to break off some students into separate classes.

The way to find a job that requires only 4 classes a day is to simply ask the current foreign teacher what their schedule is before signing a contract. Look around until you find one you like, then write the schedule into the contract.

Actually, the guy I replaced at my current hagwon only taught like 2-4 classes a day. Not too good for business, though, that.

yeah, but like I said, where do you find these jobs? I posted resumes and searched job ads all over the place and my 6-8 classes a day is the low end of the many, many jobs that I saw.

Teachers are paid a SALARY not a wage per class hour.

A typical 30-hour week teaching in Korea means

6 hours of classes per day, and an hour or two for prep. That is very much the standard.

Only if you let them use you like that is it the standard! If you sign a contract that states 30 hours a week then that all they get....all prep, classes and whatnot should be within that 6 hours a day, Mon-Fri.

THATS what you agreed to and signed up for.....not an additional 10 hours per week for no pay!

If you are going to work a freakin 40 hour week then get your hour breaks....bugger off and go for dinner.

How many actually get a 30 minute break during a 6 hour day? You're legally entitled to it! Why work straight through for 6 hours without a break? Its the nature of the business? Get stuffed.

The only way they can use you is if you lay down and let them!
