Big birds article concerns little more than a sunday school to morally prepare kids to deal with the future. "war" is a misleading word to throw, they're not being trained with M16's. In any case this indoctrination is a minor case and hardly represents what happens across the entire western world or in christianity. Those kids are free to leave or reject such ideology at any time, and they won't be killed for doing so. And for the record I also disagree with what they're doing.
Contrast that though, to the widespread and institutionalised abuse of children across the Islamic world, where children are brutalised and numbed to violence from an early age.
There really is no comparison.
Final question then Big Bird.
if you had to choose, which would you send Letty to?. A sunday school, or to the "best dressed suicide bomber" competition in Palestine? |
As far as I'm aware, US children are not living under a brutal Israeli occupation, in which children are regularly killed by occupying soldiers. Thus you are right, there is no comparison.
As for Letty, you had better ask her mother about that. (Ask dogbert if you still don't understand....)
As for my own child, I would dread for him to go to Palestine at all - I wouldn't want him shot at by an Israeli sniper. |

Answer the question from Junior.
In fact, I will even tone it down a tad,
where would you rather have your child attend? A typical Sunday school or a typical madrassa? Pick one or the other.
Kindly answer clearly and with a short explaination. |

Neither - I can't stand organised religion of any sort. |

No. Make a decision.
Which one? Be honest. Would you rather, if given 2 choices, have your kid be a muslim or a christian? |

Oh, now. You're being a tad obvious. If you really feel the urge to troll, learn to be a bit more subtle first; otherwise, stay under your bridge. |

That's such a retarded thing to do. But hey you are retarded, so I'll play along.
If the Sunday school teacher was a complete and utter Bush nut, urging war on thrid world countries, banging on about hellfires and eternal damnation, advocating the killing of doctors at abortion clinics, while the imam at the madrassa was a gentle and wise soul, teaching peace and love and harmony (and giving free Arabic lessons to boot) I'd happily plump for the latter. Happy now? Of course not... |

Yup, retarded.
I do enjoy that you are dumb enough to think that anyone would believe your answer. Just as a hint, in case you don't get it, all who read what you wrote know that you are being quite dishonest. And in the wildly unlikely event that you are not, that fact that you had to qualify it shows a certain moral weakness.
In the end, everybody and their dog knows exactly what you would choose.
Your self-censorship is pathetic. |

Yep, sorry for being a retard.
I have respect for all religions as long as they respect mine. When people start slinging mud at and advocating killing people of other religion including mine, I have problem with it. I would have to say kill them before they kill me. I thank God that I'm on the stronger side though.

Indoctrination...not unlike what goes on in North Korea, except for one little thing...the American kids are also being conditioned to grow up as good consumers of 'christian' products.
Saying we should respect their religious beliefs is missing the point, TheFonz. The reason this is wrong is that these kids are being groomed to be inflexible in their own views, which will undoubtedly create conflict with those who don't share their ideas. Besides, it's unhealthy and dangerous to expose chidren to such pressure. They lack the maturity to deal with the issues in a logical manner.

I agree with you that children shouldn't be put in that type of environment or be under that kind of pressure. I also agree that this leads to intolerance of other people's beliefs. A problem I also pointed out in my post. However don't take my first post as a defense for the evangelical "Christian Camp". I mentioned in my post that children should be taught to respect other people's beliefs and to not force their beliefs on others. Forcing and sharing beliefs are two different things. However not all christian/religious camps are bad. A parent shouldn't force Christianity/religion on their children, but if a parent chooses for their child to go to a Christian/religious camp what is wrong with that? I find no fault in someone sending their child to a Christian/Muslim/Jewish/etc. camp as long as they aren't preaching hatred or intolerance for others and as long as they aren't forcing the religion on the children. It all depends on the camp of course. I think the evangelical "Christian Camp" on display was an extreme and completely inaccurate example of what usually takes place at a christian camp.
Edit: I also stated that I feel the video will lead to more negativity than constructive criticism. The children in the video look like they are being manipulated and pressured to perform the desired effect. No one should be pressured in that way and it is wrong and completely unacceptable. However to say all Christian/Religious camps are like this and also wrong is where I draw the line. Now any type of "Christian Camp" will be associated with this extreme evangelical camp. That is the negative aspect I drew from displaying the documentary. I also question the motivation behind the OP's reason for posting this. |

Well, I do know that the most normal christian/religious camps will do is teach kids catchy little tunes that have some kind of religious meaning in between outdoor activities (pretty harmless stuff). The camp in the video is an all other story. |

So you would rather Christians be nice little wimps like Bart simpson's Christian pal? Something that is manageable and you can fit neatly within a box, right?
Most people would hate to think of God as an omnipotent, all knowing God who consumes everything with the fire of His passion. What Christianity has lacked and is lacking is passion. No longer are there going to be days where Christians file in church on Sundays and forget about it for the rest of the week. Christianity is about a fire that is unquenchable and where people are consumed to understand the fullness of a Holy God.
Yes, there are those who are on the right who have politicised it for their own gain, in which they will have to face the judgment of God. No, the Christianity that is rising in the land today is a broken, weeping love that would endure death to tell you that there is a better way.
The war they are talking about in this video, is a spiritual war. The picture of President Bush is only a picture to which the children can pray for. Our church would do the same thing by posting pictures of leaders so that we could pray for them. |

religion plus passion and fire leads to things such as the taliban and al-qaeda. I think I like the present form of xtianity thanks. |
