We (the wife and I) have secured some foreign funds, have bags ready and have planned a route out. We are not panicking, nor are we expecting to have to use this, but wish to be safe should the unlikely occur.

I am not terribly alarmed. But I do not like the idea of a nuclear North Korea. I think if the Russians, Chinese, South Koreans, and the US all went in and pounded North Korea, the North Korean army wouldn't stand a chance. But, that would not happen. Instead of invading Iraq which presidents of countries knew didn't have serious wmd compared to 1990, North Korea was allowed to arm. But, I think the invasion of Iraq was part of the reason why North Korea went very fast towards a nuclear program and the disaster in Iraq has emboldened certain dictators like Kim Jung Il. It has had the opposite effect than the desired one.
If something bad happens, the embassies would airlift people. Or, I would maybe head to the near army base. I am not going to overplay this and panic. Most Koreans think it is just the usual dumb behavior, attention-getting of the North Koreans. I do think the North needs a regime change. It has been very provocative, but I am not sure it is the best idea to invade North Korea, especially if they have a nuke.
It is said they cannot, at this moment, launch a nuke over a very long distance. Technically, the regime can be taken out. Anyway, what can be done about Kim Jung IL without resorting to violence? The North Koreans say they want to talk to Bush. Would that actually do anything, if that request was granted?
