Seinfeld was successful because 1) his characters were well-developed. When I watch Friends, I lament that the characters seem so boring and 2) He pushed the limits of audiences touching on topics such as racism (white woman with Chinese name episode) and the acceptance of gays (the episode where George pretends to be Jerry's gay partner so he can dump his girlfriend). Comedy is meant to push the limits of society and most sitcoms are so safe nowadays. |

Arrested Development is hilarious. Another great show that was cut by Fox after a couple of seasons was Titus. Who doesn't love the alcoholic father in that show.
Seinfield is funny in the earlier episodes but went downhill after about the 3rd or 4th season. |
