Apparently the Mac isn't able to address 4GB or more RAM because of the limitation of the hardware (and software). Apple's reasoning is that they believe that the additional 1GB will force software in memory to overlap, thus making inefficient use of memory.

Windows XP and servers have no problem addressing memory over 4GB (up to 64GB on certain versions).

Works fine. Its like OpenOffice on other UNIX systems, just this is a port for Mac.
