Missouri has been conceded. That leaves only Virginia and Montana. I think both will go Dem. Well, it's just hoping since I've seen no analysis as to which precincts have yet to be counted for Montana. Wink However, the remaining areas for Virginia are expected to go Webb's way and he's at 8,000 now. To avoid a re-count he'll need to carry the remaining 33k by five or six points. Probably a stretch.

You`d classify the latest administrations term as wine and roses?

Lol. And George Allan is against slavery. And Rick Santorium is for equal marriage. And there were WMD in Iraq. And Saddam plotted 9/11. Man you're ignorant, can't you see the Wine and Roses. Duh.

I think now the Senate will now go Democrat. No way the recount in Va gets Allen 10,000 votes. In Montana it looks like the Dems will take it though CNN has said they will not call it until after 7AM EST (9P here)

whats kind of funny now, the guy who is providing the streamtvnow CNN feed has been switching to the Playboy Channel (now there is an irony Very Happy ). I cant believe I've had this feed on for 11 hours now

Now on to Obama 08!!!!!!

G-d forbid we actually try to pay off the debt. But yeah, the economy will probably tank like it did under Clinton.

I am EUPHORIC. I didn't want to hope too much in advance, because ALAS, POOR YORICK, we've been screwed too much in the recent past - in fact, we have been royally screwed for most of my rather lengthy lifetime.

If there are any Democrats reading this who are just dying to WHOOP IT UP WITH A REBEL YELL (or something), any interest in getting together?

My 2 co-teachers are both Americans, but one's not exactly my political soul mate (he loves Reagan) and the other is a sweet, yoga-loving guy who might overdose on cranberry juice.

AND I NEED TO CELEBRATE!!!!

Anyone near Seoul? Any suggestions for this weekend, before euphoria passes?

CANUCKOPHILE (but yes, I am a Yank still)

Oh yeah, the late 90's were just terrible.

I didn't pay much attention to the election, but I'm still surprised it was as close as it was. With all of the sewage of the last 6 years, and the senate is still split 50-50. I'm unconvinced this is something to celebrate.

Congrats to the Repub electorate who have given the Republican party a sharp stick in the eye. We turned to you with our hopes and fears and you snubbed us for your business and money interests. Go F * yourself. The Democrats have done nothing to win this election, it was handed to them.

IMHO, I have never seen a more dismal set of choices or alternatives. The Republicans stink and the best alternative the Democrats have is that they "don't stink like Republicans".

God help us.

Yeah I'm not happy with the Democrats coming in they sound more like Republicans. Also as Lou Dobbs said on his program 14+ hours ago (man have been following this that long today?) you still have corporations and special interest groups who poured money into the Dems campaigns and therein lies the problem.

What would be great to see in the first 100 days of a Pelosi Speakership is a repeal of the bankruptcy laws that have sc$ewed the middle class and gave the banks a ton of money. That to me would be a sign this Congress may do something for the average american. Then deal with health care and prescription drugs, THEN deal with Iraq and W's unsurping of the Constitution. Maybe then I'll be happy with this

The senate's not such a big deal though because you need a 60% majority (I think) to pass things anyway so any change in the number makes a difference whereas in the house all you need is a simple majority to do whatever you want.

For normal legislation, only a simple majority is needed. You are thinking of cloture votes and treaties.

The House has no role to play in foreign affairs, but the Senate does. The Senate must ratify treaties. The other significant power the Senate has is confirming presidential appointees--cabinet posts and federal judges. With the Democrats holding 50 seats, it will be more difficult for Bush to appoint extreme conservatives to the bench. If Webb wins in Virginia, it will be almost impossible for Bush to appoint anyone to the right of center.

I understand what you guys are saying about how the independents will vote ...but what I'm trying to figure out is: How the Senate majority leadership get dictated ? If it's as I suspect then the Republicans still technically are the leaders of the Senate ... Cheney would be the tie breaker.

Cheney only votes after ties of the Senate, not only Dems and Reps. Thus, the two independents - one a socialist, the other a Dem running independent due to an earlier loss - vote with the Dems in setting up committees, etc., and thus the vote is 51 - 49.

How do I calculate Dave's post time vis-a-vis current Seoul time. I can't be bothered to think for myself after editing gar-bahge toefl material all night. Ouch. I didn't know slime mold and cubism was so uninteresting when explained by a non-native speaker.

Moori apoo....
