| I think Otis means Bush pretends to be a "cowboy" when in fact he's a grown-up frat boy from an incredibly wealthy country. |

| Putting Bush's intelligence or wickedness aside, the OP is right about his presidency........it's finished. He will be a lame duck for the next two years. For whatever reason, that seems to be pretty common in U.S. politics. Clinton had the sex scandal that ruined the last 2 years of his presidency. Reagan had the Iran-contra scandal that killed the last few years of his presidency. And George Bush bit off WAY more than he could chew by going into Iraq without having an exit strategy. It's sad that thousands of Americans have died in "the new, democratic Iraq". How many more are going to die by the time Bush leaves office? |

You're actually wrong, and I'll tell you why.
There is no responsible Democrat who is going to leave Iraq in the hands of the Shiaa.
People compare this war to Vietnam. Their wrong. This war smacks of Korea.
We went through guys like Sig-mun Rhee and Park Ji-hung and No Tae-Woo and Chun Doo-Hwan. Yes, a littany of absolute clowns.
But we couldn't give up. The real-estate was just too valuable.
Iraq is the same. We'll have a presence there for the next fifty-years. Yes, ten years down the road, esl will actually be an option.
We can't give up on it--republican or democrat be damned. The real-estate is just too valuable. |

One more thing.
Over 50 thousand Americans died in Korea so you could teach the kiddies how to say "apple" and "socks" and pick up a wage.
Are you laying wreaths at their graves?
Yeah, I didn't think so. |

That's just stupid. Hundreds of thousands of soldiers died to protect your freedom. Do you do the same? Have you been to any European War Cemetaries? I wore a poppy on Rememberance Day ever year, but that is about it. I still respect all the people who fought and died. Do you even know where the graves are for the people who fought for your country's independence?
While you are saying we should respect them and remember what they gave us (no argument), don't pretend to lecture people. |

My dad fought in Vietnam.
My English grandfather killed Germans.
My American grandfather killed Japanese.
I froze my ass off on Adak, Alaska while in the Navy. I killed quite a few bottles of Scotch.
I can lecture if I want, little boy. I've put my time in. |

The truth is that he's a capable president who has had to face some harsh times in American history. |
I think I'd be more willing to label Bush Jr. as "capable" if he didn't have a history of running businesses into the ground.
Oh, and Sammy Sosa ftw.

Pre-emptive war as a strategy is asinine. It encourages the same thinking in your enemy. It creates a situation of constatnly heightened tension. That, of course, is what the military-industrial complex and the neo-cons want. But in terms of actually running a country and living in the world, it is asinine and suicidal. Pre-emptive attack as an option is a no-brainer. But violence among nations, as in everyday life, should be THE last option, not the first.
Bush is an idiot. He cannot speak coherently. Give me five mintues alone in a room with Bush on camera and I'd make him look like the fool he is. Then, again, so could just about any average high school student.
Bush did not craft any of the policies of his administration save the war in Iraq. And even in that he was simply chasing the same rabbit his handlers had set for him anyway. Every basic policy decision he "set" as a goal in his administration was already presaged in the Plan B/Northwoods/New American Century cadre.
Let's see:
1. debt: doubled
2. deficits: every year after the first balanced budgets in decades.
3. a "war" economy with false signs of strength. ANY economist will tell you war spending does not build capital or infrastucture. It's empty calories. As soon as the spending ends, the bubble collapses. A war economy is a FALSE economy.
4. The international relationships of the US are at an all-time low. I can't imagine them getting lower.
5. Iraq: a quagmire. Illegal? You bet your sweet ass. Gaining votes for a war under false pretenses is TREASON. That is negligent homicide, if not murder.
6. Who has benefitted from the Iraq war? Bush cadre. Military-industrial comples. NO ONE else.
7. Real income falling.
8. Liveable wage jobs disappearing.
9. Habeus Corpus gone.
10. Wire taps at will.
11. Torture as policy.
Enough... |

I am EUPHORIC. I didn't want to hope too much in advance, because ALAS, POOR YORICK, we've been screwed too much in the recent past - in fact, we have been royally screwed for most of my rather lengthy lifetime.
If there are any Democrats reading this who are just dying to WHOOP IT UP WITH A REBEL YELL (or something), any interest in getting together?
My 2 co-teachers are both Americans, but one's not exactly my political soul mate (he loves Reagan) and the other is a sweet, yoga-loving guy who might overdose on cranberry juice.
AND I NEED TO CELEBRATE!!!!
Anyone near Seoul? Any suggestions for this weekend, before euphoria passes?

It's going to be interesting to see how the Democrats and Nancy Pelosi are going to solve the Iraq problem.
I'm also wondering if Pelosi can hold the speakership.
Many of these new Dems are moderates some are even conservative.
The only real power is Charlie Rangle ways and means chair.
"No New Tax Breaks".

Actually Clinton was able to claw his way back and eventual rack up the highest approval ratings of his presidency post Monica-gate... |

CNN has said Tester won in Montana, which only leaves the Virginia race undecided.
The count is now 49 Republicans and 50 Democrats (I guess they are counting Lieberman as a Democrat). |

My dad was an Aggie (Texas A&M)... he had oodles of Aggie joke books. Let's hope new Secy Defense (10 secs have gone by so I've already forgotten his name) is not a new candidate for the jokebooks. Too many lives at stake, and too many lost already.
