My idea of hong kong is just of a bunch of rich dudes in business suits... i am hoping there's more to it than banks, clubs, and shopping... someone pls tell me there is!
It's honestly one of those cities I know nothing about... but I should really go there, as almost half of my friends in vancouver originate from there...
Also, it has DIM SUM. I would go there for that... and for that ALONE. |

If you have a BEd, you can apply for the NET program. It's very similar to EPIK/SMOE/GEPIK in Korea but better in many ways(you get to live in HK! the pay rises substantially if you stay on, etc). Information can be found here: http://www.emb.gov.hk/index.aspx?nodeID=262&langno=1
I'm definitely going there(if I get accepted) after this stint in Korea. I applied 3 years ago fresh out of university but lacked the experience at the time to get past the interview stage. After being here for almost 3 years, my chances should be much better.
The only downside to living there is that you'll always be surrounded by snooty, money and status obsessed locals(and expats too). |

Banks, clubs, shopping. well yeah, plenty of that.
I like Hong Kong for the food (such as the dim sum) and the harbor views. Victoria peak might be touristy, but it's a pretty stunning view. |

Cool. I think it will be nice for 3 days... 3 days full of DIM SUM, and only DIM SUM! |

| All of you people who loved Disneyland are adults who weren't travelling with children? I went to Disneyland in LA with my friend when we were 21 and it sucked beyond all measure. Is there something different or special about Disneyland in HK? |

| Disneyland is in Anaheim, not L.A. What time of year did you go and what sucked about it? |

you must have lived there, since the only people that make a distinction between the two are those from LA or Orange County. |

In March and it was boring, crowded, childish, and the rides were pitiful (and that's coming from someone who doesn't handle really scary rides all that well). It left me with no desire ever to visit Disneyland again unless I were with children under 11. |

Ah, I'm sorry you didn't have a good time. March means spring break and therefore higher attendance numbers. There's no excuse for going on crowded days unless you want to, if you're a local. If you're not, you can still do your research first, like any traveller, but ultimately the park's not for everyone. If you're not a kid or don't enjoy things aimed at children, it's not for you. Personally, I think kids are one of the best things in the park (lots of "aw!" moments).
Other than online research the next best thing you can do is take along a soCal native as your guide. We know how to do it right.
Apologies for the threadjack, I'd still love to hear about HK Disneyland from whoever went! |
