That's a really boring video. it's kind of like one of the orientation videos they show at rip-off jobs like door-to-door knife salesman.
Scientology is a real religion -- why look at all of these court cases that say it is! What a creepy thing to put in you video. i think most religions would avoid showing off how often they have been in court.
And all that talk about trademarks, legally seperate entities, professional development....
It's not even a cult. The bare lie shines through. it's a business. |

Among other things, Hubbard was a disciple of Aleister Crowley.
Sheer pseudo-religion. |

The Scientologists are great eh! It's a pretty interesting religion. I think it's designed for geeks, what with all the different 'levels' you can attain and new secrets you learn as you move up the chain.
When I was in LA the highlight of my time there was a (non-intentional) Scientology day I spent. In the morning I was walking around Hollywood and saw a sign for a free psychology museum. That sounded interesting. I went in and it was all anti-psychology, which I thought was a bit odd. At the end of the tour there were some scientologist recruiters who gave me and my friend a free ticket to the L. Ron Hubbard life exhibition, which was happily just down the road.
The tour of the Hubbard life exhibition was faaantastic. It was like a real life version of that video. Kinda interesting, kinda creepy, full of exagerations and rubbish (was Hubbard really a professional in 28 fields? I don't think so..) A thoroughly entertaining day. Unfortunately my tour ENDED in the book store instead of it being the second stop (different logic to that in the video I guess). Anyway I think the cheapest book they had was like $15.
I don't trust any religion that doesn't give me free books. The Christians, the Mormons, the Muslims.. they'll all give you a free copy of their bible. Not the Scientologists. You gotta pay for that shit.
I rounded off my Scientology day when I saw a sign saying "Free IQ test".. went in.. and sure enough it was another Scientology joint. I took the test. The conclusion was that.... I needed to become a Scientologist =) Awesome. I didn't become one though because they wanted to send me on expensive courses. I might infiltrate them one day though.. I bet that not only can I get 'clear' before you, I can also get to super-secret level 30 before you too. And meet the Alien captain.
They forgot to mention in the video that an abbreviated "Dianetics" was first published in Astounding Science Fiction. I think Hubbard is pretty awesome to be able to pull off founding a succesful religion after (1) betting that he can do it and (2) publishing his basic religious tract in a pulp sci-fi mag before trying to sell it to the people. Clever guy. |

12.5 hours of intensives?! (minute 18:25) Gitmo has been trumped!
Hey, isnt' the "Paster" an actor? It seems as though I've seen him in some B movies...(minute 24:09)
What? She'd be dead without Scientology? I figured it was Jenny who saved her.
The closing of that video is.....wow.
!Shoosh,

| Has there ever been a scientologist on Dave's? I know we've had a couple multi-level marketing types and that's pretty darn close. |

Didn't Hubbard at one time, pre-CoS, claim he could invent a new religion?

| Some of those linked vids are quite dark and revealing. The thing about taking over the city of Clearwater was pretty messed up. I wonder what the state of the play is right now... |

| Some people are so lost and lonely I guess they'll join anything to belong and find meaning in this cruel world. Isn't it nice too to be one of few who really knows what's going on? I know something you don't -- kids love games involving that. |

I know. It wouldn't convert me because I wouldn't bother hanging around until the end.

Back in Austin, TX there's a big church of scientology. The people who work there are pretty dark indiviuals. You can tell they've been through it. If they're not dead in a knife fight or sucking the high hard one in prison, i guess scientology is working for them.
All religions are crutches. Some are more ... costly. |

Kurt Russell is a professional in 38 different fields, including alien and demon fighting (see The Thing and Big Trouble in Little China) but he didn't feel the need to make up a pseudo-faith and overcharge for it.
I say Russellism is the way to go. |
