No it's not. What would you call a group of people trying to overthrow the Castro regime in Cuba? "Freedom fighters", that's what! Why? Because US foreign policy approves of anything that might stifle or help topple the Cuban regime.
Now, what happens to the nomenclature of those groups that oppose US policy and the policies of countries in their "friendly" fold/influence. Yeah, you guessed it, they're terrorists.
Since 9.11, the term "terrorist" has been flung around much more. It has now come to replace "nationalist", "extremist", "freedom fighter", "guerrilla", "liberation army", "popular uprising", and any other term that is connected to a group or forceful action that is not sanctioned by the host country/regime, those in it's group of allies, or other larger, more international powers. |
